Got a call today from someone claiming it was a recorded message, trying to get me to schedule a free loft insulation check. They kept pushing and wouldn't take no for an answer. I told them to remove me from their contact list as I’m not interested, then ended the call. Definitely felt like a scam.

This number has rung me a couple of times while I was working, and I wasn’t able to pick up, so I let them leave a message. Anyone saying they’re from HMRC makes me wary, so I looked up the number before calling back since some return calls can end up billing you without warning. It’s definitely a scam. If you get calls like this, make sure to report them to HMRC and don’t deal with the caller at all.

Totally a scam!!! The voicemail sounded really threatening. Don’t bother calling back or replying to it.

Got a voicemail that sounded really intimidating. I think it's a good idea to warn your more vulnerable family or mates about it since it seems like it could fool someone into thinking it's legit.

I didn't pick up, but got a voicemail saying it was from HMRC. Seemed a bit dodgy to me, so I haven't bothered ringing back.

Got a voicemail claiming to be from HMRC saying not to ignore the message. Total scam, don’t even think about calling them back. Best to just block and forget it!

This is a total scam, really obvious once you listen to the message. The grammar is terrible and the way they talk is nothing like how HMRC would phrase things, like saying “if you don’t, prepare to,” or “my division is.” Just don’t fall for it.

Total scam alert. Got a recorded message supposedly from HMRC warning me about some legal trouble unless I ring them back. It was all really vague and didn’t say anything personal, which was quite odd. Pretty obvious it’s just a dodgy trick trying to con people.

Got a dodgy voicemail that sounded like it was from HMRC, warning me about legal consequences if I didn’t listen. Totally an automated scam. Never ring them back!

I just got called by some robot claiming to be from HMRC. It was pretty scary, with all those threats about legal trouble. I was a bit iffy from the start, but it got worse when after telling me about legal action, the person just said "take care" and hung up. Honestly, loads of folks might freak out and end up calling back.

Got a call from someone saying they were from HMRC. I rang back straight away without hearing the full message and they claimed to be HMRC. Something felt off, so I asked where their office was since the number was from Bristol, but they said "London" which I know isn’t where HMRC has offices. Then I quizzed them on what HMRC actually stands for and they couldn’t answer! Definitely a scam. I’ve blocked the number now. Why doesn’t BT do anything about shutting these numbers down?

I didn't answer their first ring but called them back later. The person on the line spoke with an Asian accent and claimed to be from HMRC. He said there was a lawsuit against me and asked if I had a lawyer. When I pressed for more details he got rude and told me off, ending with “don’t be cheeky” before slamming the phone down.

I missed a call earlier and there was a voicemail supposedly from HMRC telling me to call back straight away. When I rang the number back, first I got some automated message, then a guy with an accent I couldn't quite place answered. He asked for my phone number but refused to say which department of HMRC he was from. I asked him to prove he was really from HMRC, and he got all annoyed, telling me not to waste his time or mine and to just hang up if I didn’t believe him. I’ve since reported it to HMRC by emailing [email protected].

Got a voicemail from HMRC claiming I owe them cash and asking me to ring back. They also mentioned I should get my lawyer involved if I don’t call, warning me to 'be prepared'. Honestly, felt quite intimidating.

Got a missed call with a voicemail supposedly from the HMRC tax office, asking me to ring back. When I called, someone with a foreign accent picked up straight away, saying they were from HMRC. They then claimed I was under investigation for tax fraud going back 5 years. The caller asked me why I’d supposedly been dodging tax. I told them I didn’t think the call was legit and they just replied with “ok then” and hung up. Honestly, the whole thing seemed fake, so don’t waste your time talking to these people.
