Got a pesky one from someone claiming to be "Microsoft" or "BT" - who even falls for that these days? Total scam call!

Best to just stay quiet when you pick up the phone.

When i asked who was calling there was only silence, then suddenly a Russian accent came on so i just ended the call. Felt a bit bad after hanging up though. Seriously BT, can you not block and take action on these? Feels like these cold callers just want to push us off landlines, which we still actually rely on! Jo :'(

Honestly, ringing back numbers you don't recognise is just asking for trouble. You’d have to be proper clueless or really gullible to give it a go. There's a good chance it’s a wangiri scam, or it might actually be some poor sod’s genuine number that scammers have faked. It's getting more common these days.

Back in the day, scammers would call numbers just to see if someone would pick up, and it looks like this number is doing just that. Whenever I answer the phone, they just suddenly hang up. Seems like a tactic that only really makes sense with landlines, though.

Tried calling that number back and it just doesn’t seem to be real, like it’s not registered anywhere.

I said “what do you want?” and they just went silent and then ended the call.

This number rang my home phone twice and I’m pretty sure it’s a scam.

The number showed up as Bristol on my phone, but since I’ve got no mates from that area I just let it ring out.
