So, I called 01172001582 today, which is linked to E-On. I gave them a ring again just now, and it was the standard E-On recorded message asking about your problem. They told me I'd actually reached the Fraud team and offered the right number to call, so I’m not really sure how this number is being misused. I’m thinking about contacting them since it’s a bit confusing. Whoever answered was polite and professional, didn’t try anything dodgy, just straight away said I had the wrong department, so I hung up.

Got a text from this number asking me to send a pic of my meter and some yellow tape left by engineers over a year ago when they switched it out. They said they were from EON. Got a message from E-on about a meter fitting set for a couple of weeks from now. They asked for info that they should already know. Didn’t give out any personal info.

So I’m being told I owe almost £5,000 to a company I haven't dealt with since last year! If this is the real deal, I’ve got emails proving I closed that business ages ago! Plus, I didn’t even have a boiler for about a year before that, so how could I owe gas bills? That’s actually why I had to shut my hairdressing salon in the first place!

Got a text from this number saying I owed a specific amount, which matched exactly what I actually owe. It looked genuine but I’m not about to pay through a text like that. I always go on Eon Next’s official website or ring them up directly to sort payments. Better to find their official contact info yourself, as asking for money via text seems dodgy and anyone could send those messages.

Got a weird text today from an 0117 number telling me to ring an 0808 number. The thing is, I’m already deep into a massive legal battle with Eon that’s gone nowhere - won a case in county court but then magistrates wrongly overturned it, and the courts just ignore me, which is just ridiculous. Throughout all this, the real Eon has kept leaving loads of voicemails asking me to call back. I’ve made it clear I’ll only communicate in writing since the court needs everything on paper. So I ignored this text as well. Plus, Eon’s actual office isn’t in Bristol, it’s in Nottingham.

To be sure it was legit, I rang a different number they gave me, 0345 052 0000, and turns out it’s a new contact for them. Apparently, they’ve been merging with other companies lately. The good bit is they’re setting up a UK-based customer service centre now. So no more having to explain myself over and over again on calls. For me, it should make sorting things out a lot quicker and less stressful - honestly, I’m well pleased about that!

My home energy’s with another provider, and my business bills are sorted by direct debit. Don’t follow the link if you get the same message. If you’re unsure, ring E.ON on the number from your actual bill instead. Definitely seems like a scam!

It included an apology for a message sent the day before, saying they’d sorted the bugs and could now install a smart meter. The weird part was the link - it looked legit up till the end where it had what was meant to be my account number, but it was wrong. Clicking it would probably take you to a fake login page, trying to get you to enter your real details and possibly messing up your phone or stealing your info. I’ve sent a report to 3 on 7726, which is their spam number. Just watch out, folks!
