Then they pointed out a damp patch on one of the walls and started suggesting ways to sort it, like spraying some waterproof stuff. That’s when the sales pitch kicked off - starting at £10,000, but if we said yes, they'd knock a bit off, and as pensioners, we'd supposedly get an extra discount too.
