I received a handful of calls this morning from a rather mechanical-sounding voice claiming to be from UK Power, informing me that my electricity would be reinstated by 10 PM. The only hitch is, there’s no power cut happening in my neighbourhood at all. Quite baffling, really!

Got a call really early like 5 am during Storm Ciaron, said it was from the electricity firm telling me they’d bring the power back by 10 pm. They wanted me to press 1 to confirm or 2 to hang up. Thing is, the power was never off here in West Sussex, so I just ended the call. Feels like some kind of scam, right?

This sounds pretty genuine to me. UK Power usually uses an automated message to update you about any power cuts in your local area. However, don’t ever press any numbers if the robotic voice asks you to. Just stay on the line and listen, the info will be told without you having to do anything.
