Clearly, this is a classic PPI scam. Whatever you do, don’t press five or nine. Make sure to report it to the ICO as well. When enough people take action, there’s a greater likelihood of these scammers facing fines or even being put out of business altogether.

Got a bunch of calls where either it's just silence or some recorded message, and they always seem to hang up as soon as I pick up.

This number has been ringing me multiple times over the last few weeks. Every time I pick up, there's silence on the other end. When I've attempted to ring back, I get a message saying the number isn't recognised. Normally, I’m pretty patient but it’s getting annoying especially since they call as early as 7.45 in the morning and as late as 7 in the evening.

I get calls from the number 01158717037 pretty much every week. It’s always a woman speaking English, telling me I might have a PPI refund and asking me to press 5 to continue or 9 to opt out. I just hang up without pressing anything. I’ve signed up to the Telephone Preference Service hoping to cut down on these annoying calls, but I still get loads from unfamiliar numbers, mostly with very strong Indian accents. The TPS says they can’t block calls from companies doing market research or things that aren’t selling stuff, and to stop those, you have to tell each company yourself when they call you not to contact you again. But how can you do that if they don’t even say their name or the name of their company when you pick up? Honestly, the TPS promises a lot but feels pretty useless - like a toothless lion.

Got a call with a robotic voice talking about Barclays and other banks. They said to press 5 to chat with Chloe from 'Financial Claim'. She asked for my name then started on a PPI scam offering a free check to get money back. I said, "If you manage to recover cash for me, you'll want your cut, right?" She looked clueless like she hadn't considered how her firm gets paid if a claim succeeds. When I asked for a contact number, she snapped at me for wasting her time!
