The list E.ON Next has for old meters is really rubbish and way out of date. It says meters are still there when they were changed years ago, even though their billing system shows the right serial numbers. They’re pushing really hard, trying to force folks to swap perfectly fine credit meters for smart ones. It’s a bit much, if you ask me.

Got yet another cold call today about an "urgent replacement" for my 16 year old kWh meter, claiming it's "free of charge!" As a retired electrician, I know these meters last well over 30 years, so there's nothing urgent here. I've also told my energy provider multiple times that I’m not interested in a SMART meter, even if it's the so-called SMART 2 version.

This number has rung me loads, like 5 times in one week. On the 3rd of October, they even left a voicemail, well, sort of. I could hear TalkSport playing faintly in the background, but no actual message - just loud, repetitive breathing for over 2 minutes. It feels like proper harassment now. I'd say block the number, wait for the voicemail to start, then report it to Ofcom. For older people who aren’t familiar with looking up numbers online, this could be quite a scare. Totally not on.

Utility companies get £500 from the government for every smart meter they fit in your house, which is why they keep pestering people. Plus, they can collect info through your Internet (using your data allowance) to push pricier plans on you and others.

Somebody else is calling for E'on here. Every meter runs out eventually, and the government told energy companies to swap them for smart ones, which is what E'on told me as well. Check out Citizens Advice for more info, coz the suppliers aren't totally honest when they say its the law. They do have to tell you, but I don't think they can force you to get a smart meter, unless your current one is broken.

Just saw a missed call and checked the number - it’s E-on once more! I’ve told them loads of times I don’t want a new meter and there’s absolutely no need for it. They keep saying my meter is outdated and unsafe and needs replacing. Such nonsense, especially coming from a big company like that, it’s embarrassing and feels like harassment. I also get letters from them all the time which just get chucked straight in the bin. Seems like they’ve got nothing else to do.

Got a call from this number but no voicemail left. Looked it up here and saw it was Eon. I’d reached out to them earlier about their letter saying I needed to swap out my old meter for a smart one, and mentioned that Ofcom says the electric company should offer a non-smart meter option if the smart meter signal gets blocked. The customer service rep told me that Ofcom’s advice was rubbish, claimed there’s no compatible alternative, and then just hung up on me. Proper annoying.

Got a call from someone claiming they needed to swap my electricity meter for a smart one. The woman said if I gave her some personal info, they’d remove me from their call list. I told her that since they called me, they should have my details already. She just couldn’t or wouldn’t confirm anything. These scammers are good at sounding genuine, but don’t be fooled. Best thing to do is hang up straight away and block the number.

Every so often they send me a reminder about the smart meter. If I get another one, I might just use their letters as loo roll ’cause proper toilet paper’s getting way too pricey for me! Got a weird call from a bloke with a Geordie accent claiming to be from E-ON, asking for someone who actually retired over three years ago. When I told him this, he just hung up straight away, which was a bit odd as I thought he’d keep talking. Reading other comments, we did get notices from E-ON about a meter change because it’s nearly worn out, but the place is empty and nowhere near our office, so nothing can happen until contractors get there. I marked the caller as unknown mainly because he didn’t explain what he needed.

The woman’s voice sounded proper English and she said she was from E-on, telling me I needed to swap my meter for a smart one because mine’s supposedly at the end of its life. I’ve had real messages from E-on about this before, so I’m thinking this could be scammers using genuine info [even that recorded message?] - likely to turn up and fit their own meter, maybe trying to charge for the install right there.

These callers claim your meter’s reached the end of its lifespan or turning it off will cut your signal. But how do they even know what kind of meter you’ve got? They dont! All they see is that it’s not a smart meter. Our home got a full rewire about six years back and we got a simple meter installed, just measures what you use. It’s on me to keep track of consumption, report readings myself. Makes it way easier to control what I use and what I pay.
