Got a call from some bloke called Tony Smith just now. Decided to humour him and mentioned I’d go grab an Amazon voucher (which I won’t bother with). Hoping he rings back so I can string him along a bit more. Bit scary that these lot must be getting hits now and then.

I got a call from some guy named Tony Smith who said a lady called Julie was sending £3000 straight to my house. He never said anything about it being a gift or anything like that. Pretty obvious scam if you ask me. Then he tried to get me to have my passport or driving licence ready. Total dodgy situation.

Ministry of Justice called me, honestly just let it ring or keep calling them back. They really seem to lose it when someone messes up their game. Such a pain!

Had a call from some bloke named Roy Morrison claiming to be from the "Ministry of Justice." He says I’m owed £3000 for wrongful bank fees but first I need to sort out £150 tax to HMRC using an Amazon voucher. He wants me to call him once I’ve got the card so he can apparently send a solicitor over with the documents. Not falling for that one, won’t be calling him again.

I received an unexpected call claiming to be from the Ministry of Justice, informing me that I was due a payment of £3000. They went on to request that I purchase £150 worth of Amazon gift cards from a nearby shop to facilitate the transaction. Naturally, I firmly declined and instructed them to bog off!

Got a call from a bloke on this number claiming he was from the government. Was the usual scam line, trying to get me to buy a £150 Amazon card. I looked up the number online, told him to jog on, and then he phoned me again but this time from 02081335870. Be careful and don't get caught out by these sort of calls!

This is exactly what loads of others have said before. As he kept chatting, I quickly looked up the number and showed my missus this site. She didn’t waste a second and just ended the call. Not long after, he rang again but this time from a London area code. I picked up, told him I’d already done a check and knew it was a scam, then told him to get lost. That second number, 02081335870, also pops up on Who-called.

The government is apparently looking to reimburse £3000 due to excessive bank fees. Sounds like another typical scam to me. Why is it that these individuals seem to evade justice? Why can't they be held accountable and face the consequences? - caller: Tony Smith

Answered the phone, but there was no one speaking. This is actually the fourth time I’ve had this happen, each call from a different number.

I got a call today from 02031988120 and they had my previous house address. They claimed I was due to get £3,000, either by cheque or loan. I asked for the Ministry of Justice's contact number and they gave me 0114-3605879. When I said I wouldn’t give any personal info over the phone, they said I was just wasting their time and then hung up. I tried ringing back but the number didn’t exist anymore.

I’m trying to teach my mum how to spot these dodgy calls, and she told me she got one from some lot saying her bank owed her over £2000. They asked her to pop into Argos and buy a Steam gift card (yeah, for a computer game!) to pay a £150 fee. Apparently, a woman was meant to visit our house the next day with a cheque for her. The bloke on the phone said his name was William Jones or something. The number was 01143605879. Luckily, I’m checking these things out and helping my mum avoid getting scammed!

Got a call today from someone saying the government owes me £3000. He said his name was Roy Morrison and the number was 01143605879. He mentioned a Julie Green would be in touch to send a cheque for £3000 but kept going on about needing a steam card or something - never even heard of that before. Pretty sure it’s a scam.

This number rang me earlier and I think it might be some kinda scam. Can anyone tell me how they actually manage to take your money? I never arranged for anyone to visit my place, so I just ended the call. Just wondering how they pull off getting your cash?

If you fancy a good chuckle, try bombarding them with endless questions and play the fool a bit. You’d be surprised how quickly it ruffles their feathers! It’s quite entertaining, really, if you’ve got the spare time to egg them on a bit.

I've just received a call from this number as well. Apparently, someone is supposed to drop by at 5pm with a cheque for £3000, claiming it’s due to bank overcharges? Quite odd, if you ask me!

I received the exact same nonsense from Rachel regarding getting some bank charges refunded. When I inquired about which bank it pertained to, she insisted that this detail was private. She then questioned why I was chuckling, and I couldn't help but point out how absurd it was for her to pretend to represent the Ministry of Justice-such duty isn’t in their remit at all. Honestly, it feels utterly like spam. Just going to block the number.

I got a call from someone called Tony Smith, claiming to be from the justice department, saying I’m due £3000 because of some overpaid bank fees. Then a Mrs Julie Green, who supposedly is a solicitor, said she’d send a cheque tomorrow, but I’d need to pay 5% tax back to the tax office. They didn’t explain how to pay the tax, just told me to ring 01143605879 to check. My bank told me it’s definitely a scam.

Someone ringing me from an 0208 number said they were Fred Carter from the Ministry of Justice. They told me to ring 01143605879 and mentioned a solicitor would visit me that same day. I was told to get an Amazon voucher worth £125 and that the solicitor would have to put a stamp on it. They said I’d get a cheque for £2500, which I had to pay into the bank along with the Amazon voucher I bought. I got given a reference number too. Instead of ringing the number straight away, I decided to have a quick look it up online first.

19/05/16 Got repeated calls just like others have mentioned. A woman speaking with a really strong Indian accent claimed a Julie Shaw was going to visit with a £3000 rebate cheque from the Department of Justice. They told me I needed to buy a £150 Google Play card then call them back on this number. They were really pushy about it. I hung up and then the caller from 02084154888 rang back twice without leaving any voicemail. It's quite troubling thinking about if someone more vulnerable ended up getting these calls.

Got a call from a man I didn’t recognise on 01143605879 who said he was from the Ministry of Justice about a PPI claim. He told my elderly dad to go to a shop and buy Google Play vouchers, then read the codes out to him over the phone. My dad was proper scared to say no, so he called them back as they asked. Seemed really dodgy to me.

This morning, my mother, who is quite advanced in years, received a rather dubious call from someone named Roy Morrison. The chap had an Asian accent and claimed to represent the Ministry of Justice. He informed her that she was eligible for a £3000 refund due to bank overcharging that supposedly happened back in 2011. He instructed her to purchase an Amazon card for £150, promising that a government solicitor would arrive at our home with the cheque once that was sorted. Thankfully, she had the good sense to confide in me rather than falling for this ruse. When I rang the number back, he nonchalantly recited the same tale to me. It's clearly a scam!

Got a call from someone named William John who spoke with a really thick Indian accent. He told me I’m owed about £3000 back from bank fees and said he was calling from the ministry of justice. Said a solicitor, Julie Shaw, would be dropping off a cheque, but I’d have to show photo ID first. Same number as the others, 01143605879. Didn’t ring them back - definitely a dodgy scam.

My uncle, who is really unwell and at his most fragile, got caught up in this scam and ended up losing £3000. Luckily, my brother and I acted fast and stopped two big cheques he had already sent. It’s been really tough trying to keep him safe, especially since the Police haven’t offered much support. It’s heartbreaking. I just wish those horrible scammers faced proper consequences for what they do.

Got a call claiming I was due £3000, same old story about sending a solicitor with cash and needing to pick up some smart card. I played along for a bit but then asked why the bloke had a very English name yet spoke with a thick Indian accent. He said his dad had an English name and they spoke different languages at home - honestly, you can’t make this stuff up 😂😂. After a while, I got annoyed and just hung up. These scammers really don’t care about anything. I genuinely feel sorry for elderly folks who could fall for this rubbish. Absolute scumbags.

Got a call from a guy named Tony Smith - which was odd since he had a really thick Indian accent - about some supposed £3000 refund from the Ministry of Justice. He made me note down the number 01143605879. He said someone called Julie Green would be in touch today to deliver the cheque, and weirdly, he knew my address. Then he started rambling about paying a 5% tax through Google Play cards to HMRC. That was the moment I just ended the call.

Got a call from a bloke claiming he was with the Ministry of Justice, telling me we could get £3000 back for old bank fees. Got a call from a bloke with an Indian accent claiming to be Simon Miller. He said we were due a £3000 refund on some bank charges. He even knew our name and address and mentioned a solicitor would visit today with a letter and a cheque. He told me to note down the number 01143605879 to contact for more info. I recently received a rather curious call from this number. The individual on the other end proceeded to inform me that I was due to receive a payment of £3000 as stated by the government, and inquired if I preferred a cheque or a bank transfer. I opted for a cheque, and then they mentioned that a solicitor would follow up with the necessary paperwork. They started asking for my personal details, which made me a bit wary. I decided to take control of the conversation by requesting their name and contact number. The lady, who identified herself as "Rachel," provided this number. I then mentioned that I would reach out to the government myself since I’m employed by them, and promptly asked for the company name. At that point, she abruptly hung up on me. Quite the dodgy situation, I must say!

A while back, someone rang an old phone number of mine that I'd already switched over to VOIP a few years back - just in case anyone without my updated contact wanted to reach me. Of course, any legit company or government body would have my current details, so this call was obviously dodgy. The message they left was pretty hard to understand because the voice sounded like a weird, muffled cartoon character, but they seemed to be wanting me to call back about some sort of refund. Honestly, ringing back would likely be a recipe for trouble, possibly opening me up to identity theft.

Got a call today from someone claiming to be from the “Ministry of Justice” saying I was due a £3000 refund on bank charges, which would be sent through a “local solicitor” named Richard Jones. They even had my name, address and postcode right. They told me there'd be a 5% tax to pay to the Inland Revenue, but only after I got the cheque. Sounded pretty believable and well rehearsed, but I’m sure it’s a con. The number that showed up was 02081236525, and the one they gave to call back on was 01143605879.

Received a call from someone claiming to be with the Ministry of Justice. They said I'd won £3,000 because my bank had made some illegal charges. They gave me a reference number and mentioned a government lawyer named 'Jule Green' would contact me between 4:30 and 5pm, asking for my photo ID. They also supplied a callback number - 011 4360 5879 - if I had any questions. Of course, no one showed up, and I should’ve called to check, but turns out that number is a scam, and calling it costs loads. Police Scotland know about this fraud and recommend steering clear altogether.
