Got a call from EE saying "you might be eligible for some offers", but then they asked loads of security questions like "what's your surname on the account?", "when was your last bill?" and "password on the account?". I gave my surname but didn’t want to share the rest. The guy was quite polite and said he couldn’t continue without that info and suggested I visit an EE shop. So that was the end of the call.

A couple of weeks back, I kept getting missed calls from this number and finally picked up when I was at home. The caller said they were from EE and sounded quite convincing, even seemed to know a bit about my account. They asked for two characters from my password, which I thought was usual since EE sometimes does that. Then they said I’d been a loyal customer and offered a cheaper contract along with a free phone. I was told the phone would arrive within 3 to 10 days and that I'd get a text on the morning it showed up. A supervisor came on to explain terms and conditions before ending the call. I’m pretty sure I didn’t hand over any real info, but somehow they appeared to already have some details. I rang EE today to check it out and they told me they never call customers about upgrades and had no record of any such call. Bit unsettling really, as it all happened weeks ago so I can’t clearly recall if I accidentally shared anything. One thing I’m sure of is that I never gave out any bank info. It all felt a bit fishy.

They’ll ask a couple of dpa questions, basically security checks to make sure they’re talking to the account owner. It’s legit.
