Got a call from someone claiming my computer was hacked and asking me to go online so they could access it. Sounded like a total scam to me.

I recently received a rather dubious phone call from a chap claiming to be Jonathon Carter, supposedly working for Microsoft. He insisted that my computer had been hijacked by hackers over the past few days. To back his claims, he revealed what he claimed was my unique Microsoft licence number: 88DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062. However, it turns out this number isn’t unique and is the same across all Windows systems. He then started pushing me to download Anydesk, telling me it would help eliminate these so-called hackers. Naturally, I flat out refused. He became quite irate, threatening to block my internet access and demanding that I come to Reading to have Microsoft sort it out - absolute nonsense! It was clear he was just trying to intimidate me, and when he realised that wasn’t working, his tone changed. Eventually, the call dropped, but he rang me back from the number 02084112214. What a farce!

I got a missed call from this number and called back since I have friends in Sheffield and thought it might be important. But then I got a recorded message saying the call was ended due to a “breach of terms of service”. Seeing the other comments here just made me more sure it’s a dodgy number.

I had some chap ring me, saying he was representing BT OpenReach. I'm rather sceptical about that, given that I’m with Virgin Media.

Got a call this morning at 8.35 from a lady with an Asian accent, said her name was Stacey and she was with BT about my internet. Pretty clear it was a scam. I’ve seen on here that this firm in Sheffield keeps pretending to be BT and other companies - why hasn’t anyone done anything about it? It’s really frustrating that these scammers keep dodging punishment.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with BT Openreach, saying my Windows ID was changed. They wanted me to press "Windows Key + R" to open a box where they’d apparently give me a code so they could access my laptop. I played along for a bit to waste their time, then told them it was a scam. After that, they probably muttered something in an Indian language and hung up. What really caught me off guard was the number - it looked like it came from Sheffield, UK, not India. Maybe they’ve figured out a way to make their calls look local while still operating from abroad!

So this lady called saying she was from Microsoft’s tech support, talking about all these errors on my computer. Honestly, this is the third time in as many days - maybe my PC really is messed up!
