Some bloke rang up saying he was Jonathon Carter from Microsoft, telling me my PC had been hacked recently. He flashed this so-called unique Microsoft licence number - 88DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062 - but I knew it wasn’t one-of-a-kind, it’s the same on every Windows machine. He wanted me to install Anydesk so he could “fix” the hackers, which was a big no from me. Then he tried to scare me, saying he’d block my internet and I’d have to trek over to Reading to get Microsoft to unblock it. Totally ridiculous. When I didn’t fall for it, he got all annoyed. The call cut out mid-chat, and when he rang back it showed up as 02084112214.

I told South Yorkshire police and trading standards about this number. These scammers want you to put in some codes so they can get into your computer and steal your info. Don’t fall for it, just report it online to the police or call 101.

Got a call this morning at 8.35 from a lady with an Asian accent, said her name was Stacey and she was with BT about my internet. Pretty clear it was a scam. Some guy called David claiming to be from Microsoft, sounded like he had an Indian accent. We spent about 11 minutes going over supposed ‘issues’ on my PC, but then he tried to get me to install some software so he could take control and ‘repair’ it. I told him no thanks, I’m fine leaving it as is and refusing any remote access, and he hung up immediately after. Well, at least he didn’t try to pull a scam on me during that time.
