Got a text out of the blue with some kind of reference number about an account, but never got a call which was odd. Was properly relieved I looked it up first since these lot have tried scamming me in the past.

Just got an email supposedly from this Lantern company saying I owe £202.97. The message starts off with something like "you asked us to remind you when payment was due," which I don’t remember ever asking for. They don’t even say who the money is for or why I owe it. At the same time, they mention how to pay and what the next payment date is. I’m totally confused and not sure what to make of this.

Got a text from this number, they said they were 'Lantern' and mentioned some account number that’s completely unfamiliar to me! Feels dodgy and not safe at all.

I sent the email accusing me of owing money to [email protected] straight to spam - it’s definitely a scam. About 2 years back, I got a letter with the exact claim and when I phoned them, they started asking for sensitive info like my bank details. When I contacted a legitimate debt collector, they said they’re not allowed to just send emails like this; they HAVE to provide a detailed letter with each debt listed, amounts, and dates.

I didn't get a call, but a letter from a company called Lantern printed on their letterhead, including a financial form and a direct debit mandate for a supposed debt of £107.02! They don’t say who they’re collecting for though. I’m pretty sure I don’t owe anyone anything since I regularly check my credit score and always pay my bills straight from my bank. I'll be emailing them to query this and then pass the details to a scam reporting site.

Got a letter saying they’d come round to our place to collect some debt of £550 that doesn’t even exist. We use a call blocker so they can’t try bullying us over the phone. I received a message telling me to ring Lantern straight away with a reference code. I’ve had this phone number for well over 15 years and never had any debts needing a collection agency. Could be someone gave them my number by accident, or it’s a random one they dialed on purpose. They seem like a legit debt collector, but I’m a bit wary about replying just in case.

This morning, I was rather taken aback to find a letter dated 2nd June 2020 in my mailbox. It claimed that there’s a need to chat about my account? Quite perplexing! I recently encountered a firm that goes by the name Lantern, among others, and I must say, they’re quite the persistent debt collectors. Despite my number being ex-directory, they’ve been ringing me numerous times in search of a chap named Gary Price, who I can assure you, is definitely not me. This isn't our first tango-I've had to inform them before that any further calls will lead me to take legal action for harassment. A lot of their staff struggle with their English, which adds another layer of frustration to the ordeal.

Latern really seem to be a legit company. Having been through money troubles myself, I’d say it’s best to pick up the phone. If they’re after someone else, just kindly let them know so they can find the right person. I used to be with a Credit Checking Agency and can vouch that this is all proper and above board.

I got a letter today addressed to someone else saying they owe £2500. I thought it was real at first and looked up the website. Trying to be helpful, I emailed them to say that the person doesn’t live here anymore. Later I checked the phone number and found out it’s a scam. You just can’t escape these scammers, now they’ve got my email, my name, and phone number too. It’s making me distrust everything these days. It’s so wrong, those who send these letters really ought to be held accountable.

I got a letter addressed to someone else saying they owe £2500. At first, I thought it was legit, so I looked up the website and, being a decent person, emailed them to say the person doesn’t live at my address. Then I looked up the phone number and found out it’s a scam. You just can’t escape these scammers - now they’ve got my name, email and phone number. I’m starting to not trust anything at all. I answered my landline early this morning waiting for a package and heard an automated voice giving a reference number and a number to call back, but no company name. This firm calls my home phone about once a week looking for someone called Emma Wade. Just today I got a robo-call telling me to press 1 if I’m Emma Wade or 2 if I’m not. I hit 2 and then got a load of automated messages saying their agents are busy, followed by a message saying the other party ended the call. It’s really frustrating and annoying! And for the record, I’m definitely not Emma Wade!

I received a message claiming to be from something called Lantern, not that I've ever heard of them before. They asked me to ring them back and mentioned a reference number. Much like someone else has noted, I won’t be getting in touch with them. It all seems rather dodgy to me!

My son, who has Down syndrome, has recently been inundated with emails linked to this number as the contact point. It's incredibly upsetting, especially since they can't even get his first name correct! To make matters worse, the emails are addressed to the name of his estranged father, whom he hasn't seen in two decades! This whole situation is truly distressing.

got a message from them earlier today and decided to ring back - had to answer some security questions which felt a bit awkward but turns out they are a genuine company - they offer reasonable payment options for old debts you might have (mine was from 2014) - honestly, they seem to be a more honest debt collection service than most others ive dealt with.

Today, I got an email claiming that I have an unpaid debt exceeding £500, and they’re pressing me for payment. The truth is, I don’t owe a penny to anyone, and I reckon this might very well be a scam, to be honest. So, do keep your wits about you and don’t agree to any payments unless you’re absolutely certain about your financial obligations.

They've now ramped up their efforts with some rather forceful emails. Keep your wits about you. It's all rather shady if you ask me. I consider myself rather astute, so I see through it, but for those of the older generation, an email like the one I got could easily pull the wool over their eyes.

In recent days, I've received a few messages urging me to call this particular number, claiming there's "an outstanding matter" needing my attention. I've got no clue who they are and can’t shake the feeling that it’s an attempt to unsettle me. It’s quite comforting to read that others are experiencing similar situations; it appears to be a right scam, doesn’t it? They haven’t mentioned my name or address at all, which makes me think they’re just taking a shot in the dark!

genuine company, they deal with mr payday lender loans, so if you ever had one of those payday loans these are the ones chasing you. they spam loads of folks who have no idea, just think back you probs took a loan and tried to delay payments, well this is the result. these guys work with mr payday lender loans (motor mile finance) mmf, and if you just brush it off it gets sent over to prac financial limited payday express.

I’ve received a few messages from +447860041983 lately, urging me to ring a landline and reference MMF with a code of M412047. Quite frankly, I’ve no clue who these people are. I’ve been keeping on top of my Hitachi loan and MBNA card, so everything’s in order on my end. All things considered, I’m convinced this is a scam.

Just got a text from 07860 041983 today saying ‘there’s an urgent issue we need to talk about straight away. Call mmf on 0113 887 6876 and mention ref m4xx8037.’ Don’t have a clue what it’s about, but it definitely sounds like a scam to me.

I recently received an unsolicited text message from a mobile number urging me to ring them back with a reference code. To clarify, I don’t have any outstanding debts and haven’t applied for any loans. What's more, they haven’t attempted to contact me through my landline - which strikes me as rather odd since that’s the number linked to my utility providers. No letters have been sent, either. I've gone ahead and reported this to Ofcom. It feels like they're trying to reel in anxious individuals into paying off some bogus debt.

this is total rubbish and you should just block it. i phoned the number and they wanted a reference number that they had supposedly sent me via text. then they asked for my name. told the person on the line if they couldn’t match the name with the reference number i'd given, they’re just scammers. when i asked what name came up with that ref number, he said natalie smith! i told him he should find a proper job instead of tricking folks and fishing for info by lying. cheers, won’t be dealing with them again.

I reckon this is a classic scam, and it really ought to be flagged so the proper authorities can shut them down. I received a rather concerning call from someone claiming to be from Motormile Finance, insisting that I have an outstanding balance on a payday loan with Mr Lender. However, I'm convinced that I've already settled that debt. It's all quite baffling!

Multimile finance called me at work trying to get in touch about setting up a home visit for some debt. I was on holiday and asked them to arrange it within the next week. I’ve now blocked them.

Got a text saying they’ve got an urgent issue to sort with me and I need to call that number ASAP. No details about what it’s even about. Total scam, obviously. They probably bank on the fact some folks are dealing with real disputes already and will mistake this for a genuine message from that company. Legit companies always leave a voicemail and arrange a callback if needed. Honestly, I wish they’d just ring so I could tell them off properly over the phone.
