Somebody pretending to be from Barclays, which I’ve never even had an account with, called me saying I owed them for an overdraft. They wanted my personal info to 'verify' it was me. Bit fishy if you ask me.

I got a call from a woman called Stella, she was asking about my Sky maintenance contract. I told her I didn’t have any Sky contract at all and that she must have got the wrong number. She just hung up after that.

Some bloke with a thick Asian accent called me up, his English was pretty rough. He kept pushing me to renew some Sky maintenance plan. I told him I never had one, but he kept saying I must have signed up for it - complete rubbish. Then this woman with a foreign accent jumped on the line, saying it was just a courtesy call before they charged me again. I told her straight up I’d never had that service, never agreed to anything or paid for it. She insisted it was included in my Sky bill, which again, was total nonsense.

Thing is, I've never even had Sky equipment, so I just hung up and blocked the number straight away. Then I decided to ring back just for a laugh, and got an official-sounding recording about renewing cover for my Sky TV and box, asking me to leave a message. Bit dodgy if you ask me!

Got a phone call from a guy with an Indian accent pretending to be from a call centre, trying to get me to renew my Sky TV Breakdown cover. I’m pretty sure that renews by itself anyway. I asked him for our Sky TV account number to be sure, and after a short pause, he gave me a number that definitely wasn’t ours (I double-checked later). Sensing it was dodgy, I asked if he wanted my bank info - he said yes. So I told him to jog on and rang off. I found the number by calling 1471.

Sounded like a total con to me. I told him I wasn’t able to pay at the moment and asked him to ring back on Monday. That way I can have enough time to report the whole thing to the cops.

This number called me yesterday but I didn’t pick up. No voicemail was left. After looking it up, I found all the info here. If you’re unsure about Sky equipment insurance, that’s handled by a different firm called Domestic & General. They usually get in touch by post when your policy is about to expire. They’ll ask you to either cancel or keep the insurance going, otherwise it renews on its own. So yeah, like others have said, this number is definitely dodgy and you should be careful with it.

Someone rang me saying they were from Sky, trying to get me to renew insurance for my equipment. Just so folks know, Sky Q stuff like boxes and remotes are actually loaned out free of charge. You might have to pay in advance for installing or TV services though. You have to give the gear back once you stop the service. The bright side is if your box or related kit like the remote, boosters or hub have any tech problems, you won’t have to pay for a usual repair visit.
