I reckon there’s been a bit of a dodgy situation involving a so-called ‘Asian bank’ scam. If you've come across any suspicious activity, it’s wise to report it immediately. Better safe than sorry!

I’ve had a natter with someone who rang me from a call centre based in Leeds, and I must say, they’re nothing but a dodgy telemarketer trying to pull a fast one.

I've let this number ring off twice now. A chap from the telecoms department mentioned that if you pick up, they’ll figure out the line’s active and can cash in on it!

I picked up the phone, and the person on the line addressed me by my maiden name-a name I haven't gone by in more than six years! Just as quickly as they spoke, they hung up. It’s likely just a pesky nuisance.

I was curious if I was listed as the property owner, as they rang me up claiming it was for an energy efficiency assessment. It's just another one of those pesky marketing calls, really!

Utterly fraudulent and a complete scam, these people claim they’ve retrieved £2,550 plus £1,550 in interest from your bank concerning PPI claims. When I inquired about my bank’s name, I cheekily mentioned the "Bank of Paris" (which is fictitious, of course), and they fell for it. They proceeded to provide me with a reference number and an ID number, emphasising they wouldn’t request any bank or card details. It got even dodgier when they told me the cash was in some sort of 'wallet'. Then, they passed me over to another chap who seemed to be of Asian descent. He asked me for the reference and ID numbers I’d been given, which were intentionally incorrect. Flustered, he then requested my phone number to verify the details. Amazingly, he provided me with new reference and ID numbers that didn't match the originals either! He had the audacity to suggest I wasn’t very tech-savvy and offered to assist me in accessing this so-called wallet. His next suggestion was to put my phone on loudspeaker (what a peculiar request!), and to download an app called AnyDesk from the Play Store. This was clearly to gain remote access to my device, allowing him to pilfer my banking details, identity information, passwords - the works! These lowlifes need to be brought to justice. Make sure to report these scams to gov.org/phishing, the police, and the Financial Conduct Authority.

I've received a number of calls from this particular number, but I've now put a stop to it by blocking them. Each time, there was never anyone on the other end; just a handful of rings before the line went silent. Strangely enough, I've encountered quite a few similar numbers recently, so I've taken the precaution of blocking each and every one of them.

I chose not to pick up the call, and they didn’t bother to leave a voicemail. I can only conclude it’s likely some sort of nuisance.
