Got a call from a woman pretending to be from an energy firm, saying she wanted to assist homeowners. Thing is, I don’t own a house, and she actually rang my 8 year old son’s number! Needless to say, I blocked it straight away.

You could hear people chatting in the background like an office or something. Then the same number rang again with the same spiel about being the tech team at Virgin Media. I wasn’t having it and gave her a bit of sarcastic “yeah right” back. Then she flipped out and started saying some proper rude stuff, so I cut her off and hung up.

Someone rang saying they were with Virgin Media checking on my internet. I told them they should probably ask some security questions before anything else, but she said she wasn't keen on that. Totally feels like a con! Virgin Media always confirms who they're speaking to first before reaching out.

Someone called claiming to be from Virgin Media. I told them they were lying as I actually work for Virgin Media. Right after that, she just cut the call. Watch out, it’s a total SCAM.

They didn’t leave a voicemail, just hung up as soon as I picked up. Called by a guy with an Asian accent who refused to say what company he was representing. When I pressed him for details, he just ended the call straight away! Pretty obvious it was a scam.

A couple of comments down explain ways to deal with these scams and why simply blocking numbers isn't always effective. Taking a moment to report these incidents is just as quick as leaving a comment on here. It might not lead to instant results, but right now the police aren't fully aware of how widespread these scams are or the newest tricks they're using. If everyone who receives these dodgy calls and messages doesn’t make a fuss and contact their local MP, nothing will ever be done to put an end to these crooks.

I got a call from 0113 322 1053 shortly after another sketchy ring from a similar number that’s been marked as harassing on this site. When I answered and said hello, there was a lot of noise in the background, like someone was talking but perhaps didn’t notice I’d picked up, so they just hung up. Definitely seemed a bit fishy to me.

I didn’t pick up as I’d just been on the phone with the DWP about an hour before. No voicemail was left, so I had a quick look at the “who called me” app just to be sure. Seems like it’s probably a scam, so I’m ignoring it.
