Got a call that was pretty much the same as the one someone else mentioned, just today, 2nd Jan 2018. A guy said he was from the Telephone Preference Service and already had my name, number and home address. He asked if I pay my phone bill through direct debit, which I said yes to, then tried to get the expiry date of my credit card. I didn’t share it, and he sounded a bit frustrated. He hung up and when he rang back a couple minutes later, I just ignored it. I’ve blocked the number now and reported it straight to TPS.

On the 30th of December, 2017, I got a call from someone who said his name was Victor and claimed he was with the telephone preference service. He told me they’d sort out all my unwanted calls and then asked if I still paid my phone bill by direct debit, wanting me to confirm my payment details. That’s when I realised it was a con and told him I wasn’t interested. After he asked why, I just hung up. It’s a clever trick, pretending to be from a real organisation, and can easily fool older folks like me. It took a moment to work out what was really going on.

The lady on the phone introduced herself as Nancy, and she had an Asian accent. She claimed to be from the Call Preference Management, some government project aimed at stopping annoying calls. When I asked for more info, she refused to share anything unless I'd signed up first. (Thing is, I'm already on the TPS list, so I don't need to register again.) I kept it to myself and just told her I wasn’t convinced before putting the phone down.

Got a call today from Victor at Telephone Preference Management, and it's not the first time either. They've rung me about three times in a day, plus a few times to my elderly mum who’s registered blind. When I told him we still get annoying calls, I told him he was part of the problem and just ended the call. We’re on the TPS list, so it’s frustrating. Got two calls from a place called Telephone Preference Management. They wanted me to give my Debit Card Direct Debit ref or something. I didn’t give them any details obviously. They then said they’d charge me £21.99 from my bank account. Proper dodgy!

I told her she wasn’t and just hung up. Checking 1471 once more, it was that same 009 number again. It’s clearly a scam, but I’m not wasting any more time on it - my partner tends to be a bit too trusting, though.

What a bothersome lot these folks are! They purport to have ties to the Telephone Preference Service, but I can smell a rat. It’s nothing but nonsense and quite likely a scam. When I mentioned I’d be alerting the ICO and Action Fraud about their antics, they promptly hung up! Classic move, really.
