Same old story: Some dodgy bloke with a fake English name but a thick Indian accent telling me my computer is full of viruses and that my BT line will be cut off in an hour. He then asked to get remote access to my laptop - no chance! Watch out for these scams.

I got a ring around 8.10 this mornin’ from a woman with an Asian accent. She said she was calling from BT and that my BT line was about to get cut off because of some technical problem. She reckoned it’d take up to a month to fix it. I pretended to be a cleaner and before I could even ask anything else, they hung up on me.

Got a call from a guy saying he was from BT London, saying my phone line would be disconnected for two whole months - supposedly to protect me! Got a call from some con artists pretending to be from BT tech support. Seriously, why are they even allowed to buy phone numbers?! They try to get you to press the Windows key plus R and then want you to let them connect through TeamViewer so they can mess with your computer! Absolute scoundrels, no idea how they live with themselves. I managed to stall them for about 15 minutes though, so fingers crossed I stopped someone else from falling for their tricks.

Some bloke rang saying he was from “BT tech support,” sounded quite impatient. He said our internet was gonna be cut off for 15 days cos our line was supposedly sending viruses to their server, which I had no clue about. He told me to check the computer that was supposedly online. I told him none of the computers were on and he just hung up. He called back straight away but I didn’t pick up and haven’t heard from him since. Definitely a scam.

It's the same old scam every time - always some guy from India pretending he's with BT. They try to say my internet's going to be cut off because of BT's satellite or something daft like that. The funny thing is, my wired connection here in Kingston upon Hull is actually handled by KCom, and no satellites involved whatsoever. I had a phone call from some guy named Eric, sounded like he wasn’t from around here, claiming he was with BT tech support. He said there was something wrong with my internet and threatened to cut me off in a month if I didn’t fix it. When I told him that sounded rough, he kept asking if I had internet. I replied, I must do if you’re saying so! He kept asking, so I joked, tell me what it looks like and I’ll try to find it. Eventually, he said he couldn’t understand me and transferred me to his ‘head of technical services’. Then some bloke named Mark, also sounding foreign, came on and asked if I was sat at my computer. I told him I didn’t even have one! But he carried on like I did, asking if I could see the DOS prompt. I replied no, as I don’t own one. I told him maybe he should buy one himself and then he just hung up. Funny thing is, I’m actually writing this with an internet connection! Haha!

Some bloke with an Indian accent said he was from BT. Thankfully, a mate had already warned me about this scam. He said my internet was gonna be cut off because my computer had viruses. He asked me to switch it on, but I told him I don’t even own a PC lol. Then he told me to type something in a search bar, so I pretended to do it and acted all shocked. My phone buzzed at 08:56 today - call went straight to voicemail. No voicemail left, just this number. Oddly, it happened after another call at 08:27 from 01706 218826 [Rochdale], a bloke with an Indian accent claiming he was "from Microsoft". He hung up quick once I shouted "Who do you think you are calling at this hour?". Makes me reckon these might be linked? Got a call from a guy with an Indian accent. I ended up talking to him for about 5 minutes, letting him go on about how my computer was apparently sending error messages to BT. I asked him what sort of messages and what they said, but he couldn’t really explain properly. Then he mentioned the messages were being sent over the internet to BT. I told him, 'Hang on, I don’t have internet at home, only at work!' Next thing, he just hung up on me :o)

Had a couple of calls from these jokers today. First one claimed to be from BT, warning my internet would be cut off the next day. Since I work in IT, I pretended not to know much and played along just for laughs. Eventually, I got passed on to a "technician" who also claimed BT credentials. When I cheekily asked him what BT stood for, he just ended the call. Later, another call came in from someone saying British Telecom this time (guess they’re getting their story straight). I kept him on the line for over thirty minutes before telling him to bugger off. I received a rather bewildering call from someone with a thick Indian accent who alleged he was from BT. He insisted that my computer was riddled with viruses and that he could assist in clearing them out. Honestly, what a fool! He didn’t seem to grasp the concept of an IP address and kept rambling on about “your main computer.” Really showed himself to be a right numpty.

Got a call from a woman with an Indian accent saying she was from BT. She told me to switch on my device and then asked what was showing on the screen. When I questioned why I should trust her, she got quite narky and threatened to disconnect my Internet. I told her not to be so rude since she was the one ringing me, and then she just hung up. Really cheeky behaviour.

These calls are driving me mad, I reckon they earn a bit cash each time someone picks up. Today alone, I've had a couple already. I ended up switching off my answerphone because they just hang up after it rings out. They usually ring on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I've been quite blunt with them before, but it’s like talking to a brick wall. At least with caller ID, I can see who’s calling and just let it ring out.

Got two calls within 15 minutes saying my internet would be cut off for two months. I said that’s alright, no worries. Then they asked if I was sat in front of my "device" or something? I just told them to go ahead and switch it all off, no big deal. They just hung up on me. Pretty rude if you ask me.

Loads of calls like this come through, and we're pretty sure it's a con. My husband works in IT and the moment he brings that up, they just hang up! I signed up our landline with the Telephone Preference Service ages ago, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference to all the annoying calls.

Same here, was quizzing the lady loads so she passed me over to her manager. They were really pushy. I ended up telling them loads of fibs. The manager finally hung up, probably coz I kept asking too many annoying questions. Gonna share this on Facebook.

They even said I was just wasting their time. Then they called back, told them to find a real job and yep, they phoned once more after that.

Got a call this morning around 8:50, a bloke with an Indian or Pakistani accent, you could hear lots of background chatter like a call centre. He said he was from BT and warned my internet would be cut off for two months because supposedly I’d downloaded some hacking software. I told him I didn’t believe a word, but he kept trying to convince me and asked if I wanted help sorting it out. I just told him to buzz off and ended the call. Definitely going to warn family and mates who might fall for this... And no issues here, internet’s working perfectly.

00811784 rang me at 9.47 this morning. Said the same thing as others here, claiming to be from BT. I told her straight that it was a scam. She asked why I thought that. So I said we’re not even BT customers. Then she asked if I ever said we were. I just wished her a nice day and ended the call.

Got a call from some bloke claiming to be from BT, sounded dodgy straight away so I just hung up. They must think we're gullible or something. Clearly picked the wrong person this time. These fake calls are everywhere. Why isn’t anyone cracking down on this? I’m signed up to one of those sites that’re supposed to help block them, but there still seem to be loads. A woman claiming to be ‘Jenny’ from BT tech support rang me, warning that my phone and internet would be disconnected for three months because they’d detected suspicious signals from my computer linked to harmful downloads. Then she asked if I even had a PC! When I questioned her, she transferred me to some supervisor named Peter who threatened to cut off my line in under an hour. After dealing with loads of these scams before, I asked if I had to press the Windows key plus R. He seemed surprised and asked how I knew that, so I didn’t hold back telling him exactly what I thought.

Got a call today, but the line was super scratchy. Like usual, some lady with an Asian accent claimed to be from BT’s Tech Support and said there was an issue with my BT Internet that let my computer get infected. When I tried asking her something, she just completely ignored me and kept rattling on with her spiel. Let her ramble for a bit before I told her to shove off! Thankfully, I’ve got a call blocker that does a brilliant job blocking numbers that show up, so I doubt she’ll bother me again.

I got a call hoy from 00811784. Same story as others here. The guy said his name was William Taylor and even gave me some employee ID. He sounded very Asian, just like what others have mentioned. I told him I'd contact BT directly and ask for their tech team. He said "fine, do that". I ended the call. Felt like a scam to me so I googled the number and landed on this thread. Warned everyone at home and gonna put a heads up on my Facebook too.
