Phone number ☎️ 00797942 👆 is reported as a persistent scam targeting UK residents under the guise of BT Openreach calls. Callers, often with an Indian accent, claim to check or improve broadband speed, urging victims to run speed tests and download remote access software, typically TeamViewer. Genuine BT Openreach does not make unsolicited calls for speed checks, and customers are advised to decline such requests immediately. Many victims report feeling pressured or hung up on when refusing. Authorities are urged to increase action against these fraudsters. Users are strongly advised not to interact, download software, or provide any information if contacted from this number. Blocking the number and reporting the calls is recommended.

8 yearsOn 20/6/18, I got two calls supposedly from BT Openreach. The first came from +441285910814, and the second was from a number that showed as 'unavailable' but might have been 00797942. Both times the caller said they were with BT Openreach, but the second time they claimed to be from the "legal department" using that hidden number. I told them I’m not a BT Openreach customer, and they just hung up. My broadband’s actually through Gigaclear, and I checked with them; they said those calls were scams because BT Openreach deal with Gigaclear, not me. Just a heads up for anyone else!BT OpenreachGigaclear8 yearsJust encountered a different sort of BT fraudsters who were trying to gain access under the guise of checking my BT line speed. I've gone ahead and blocked them.BT8 yearsCAUTION! This is a fraudulent scheme. The individual on the line will purport to be a representative from BT Openreach (or similar) Customer Support, attempting to convince you that they are on the verge of upgrading equipment at your local exchange to enhance your broadband service. They may ask you to conduct a speed test using a platform like Oopla to illustrate your current slow internet speeds, followed by a request to download a programme called Teamviewer 11, saying it’s necessary for them to install the new broadband connection. At that moment, firmly say ‘NO THANK YOU’ and hang up. DO NOT INSTALL THE SOFTWARE. Teamviewer is remote access software, which would grant them control over your device, enabling them to pilfer any personal information stored on it.BT8 yearsI got a call from someone pretending to be BT Openreach customer service, but watch out, it’s a scam! They said they needed to upgrade equipment at my local exchange to boost my broadband speed. They asked me to do a speedtest (like using Ookla) to prove my internet was slow. Then they told me to download this software called TeamViewer 11 so they could do the installation remotely. I just said no thanks and ended the call. Don’t fall for it - TeamViewer lets them control your PC and steal your data. Stay safe and don’t download anything from these dodgy calls!BT OpenreachTeamViewer8 yearsgot a call today from this number, and the lady on the other end sounded indian. she said she was from bt openreach and wanted to chat about our broadband. since we run a business, she asked to speak to the person in charge. luckily, my partner knew about this scam already and just hung up straight away.BT Openreach8 yearsCAUTION! This is a fraudulent call. The individual on the line will purport to be from BT Openreach Customer Support and will attempt to convince you that they need to install new equipment at your local exchange to enhance your internet speed. They are likely to request that you perform a speed test using a programme (like Oopla) to demonstrate the current sluggishness of your connection, followed by a suggestion to download and run an application called TeamViewer 11, claiming it’s necessary to set up the new broadband service. At this juncture, firmly say 'NO THANK YOU' and hang up. DO NOT INSTALL THE APPLICATION. TeamViewer is remote access software that could give them control over your computer, enabling them to pilfer any sensitive data stored on it.BT9 yearsJust like a few others mentioned, this person called and wanted to know my internet speed and if I could check it. I wasn’t even near my laptop then, but they kept insisting I check straight away. I told them I’d ring Openreach later instead, but they kept pushing for an answer on the spot. Seems like this number’s been hanging around far longer than it should have.9 yearsBeen getting calls from 00797942 loads lately, pretending to check my broadband speed. Pretty sure it's a scam, so watch out!9 yearsI got a call about my internet speed being slow in my area. When I asked where exactly, they told me to test my connection speed. I said it was lunchtime for me and that was more important right now. They said they could ring back whenever. Pretty sure it was some sort of scam trying to get me to log into something. We all know this stuff happens loads, so why isn’t law enforcement cracking down on it harder? It just feels like they’re not doing much about these scams at all.9 yearsI got a call from this number earlier today. The person sounded like they had an Indian accent and claimed to be calling on behalf of a company checking my internet speed. I ended the call quickly and looked up the number here on this site. Really hope something can be done so folks who might not be so savvy don’t fall for these sorts of calls.9 yearsDefinitely a scam. But seriously, don't go ringing people out of the blue about slow internet. It's a nightmare getting any help with that. When I called to complain, I mentioned the issue to this lady who sounded Indian, and she just cut me off straight away. Not really surprised, to be honest!BT9 yearsGot a call from this number, and some bloke with an Indian accent said he was ringing from BT. He wanted to run a speed test on my broadband and asked me to log onto my computer. When I told him I didn’t have one, he just ended the call straight away.BT9 yearsI didn’t say anything as an Indian guy kept talking to someone else, thinking the call had no signal, then he just hung up.9 yearsI got a call from this number, and the moment I said hello, there was a weird silence. I just set the phone down and walked away, leaving them stuck on the other end with nobody to talk to!9 yearsHad a call from number 00797942 but decided not to pick up. Seeing what others said, I'm pretty pleased I ignored it.9 yearsJust had a ring from 00797942 saying they were with BT and wanted to boost my internet speed. Right away, I found it fishy because BT doesn’t usually do that sort of thing out of the blue. Still, I played along a bit. They told me to do a speed test using something like Ookla or Fast. After that, they asked me to get this remote access app called TeamViewer. I got suspicious and told them I don’t deal with dodgy firms. They said they’d ring back but never did. Definitely worth flagging up. I checked using 1471 and the number matched 00797942.BTSubmit Your Own Report (97942)
