Got a call from someone with an Indian accent saying they were from BT in Nottingham, saying my internet was compromised. As soon as I said I don’t even have BT, he got a bit awkward and kept asking me to power up my computer so he could ‘show’ me the issue. I said I don’t own a PC (which seemed to throw him off) and that I only use the internet for streaming telly. After that, he just suddenly hung up - classic sign this was a scam.

I had them on the line for about 20 minutes before they passed me to a ‘manager’, who I grilled to see if he was legit from BT - obviously he wasn’t. He tried every trick to get my driving licence number, claiming it was needed for internet setup, which makes no sense. He even got quite rude, mocking the fact I’m currently unemployed, asking what I use the internet for if I’m not working, and calling me arrogant, even joking I must be the PM or something. These people are total crooks, part of bigger criminal networks, harvesting info on a massive scale.

Got a call from a woman with an Asian accent saying she was calling from BT. She claimed my computer was picking up malware, but my PC wasn't even switched on since I was still in bed at 7:55 in the morning. She kept saying it was urgent I switch on my computer right away. I calmly told her it sounded like a scam and ended the call.

They must be getting my number from some public phone book or something, why would I have to go ex-directory just because of these scammers?! My missus is fed up with it, honestly, so am I. I've got a little girl at home - why should she have to deal with this if she picks up and naively follows what the caller says? It’s proper upsetting that some folks think being crooks is the only way to make a living - is this really the kind of place we want to call home? Rant finished.

Some bloke rang me saying he was from BT tech support. He told me my PC had been hacked and asked me to turn it on. I told him nothing’s wrong and just ended the call. He called back right away asking why I’d cut him off. I told him it was a scam and hung up. Then he tried calling me two more times within a few minutes. Sounded like an Asian accent.

Got a call about 9.30ish saying my BT internet was gonna be disconnected for three months! Yeah right! Then she asked if my computer was switched on - I told her she should already know that - then she just hung up. Definitely a scam, the accent and background sounds made it pretty clear it was from somewhere in the Indian subcontinent.

This morning I got a call from 005823 and the person claimed to be from BT, saying my internet would get disconnected if I didn’t run some tests on my laptop. I asked for a contact number to call back and they gave me 01158883173, saying it was their Nottingham branch. I contacted BT directly to report it and they said they’re sending it to their security team as a possible scam.

Got a call from 005823 on my landline 0810, it went straight to voicemail and all I got was some faint background noise. Reading through the other comments now, makes me wonder if BT actually monitors this website, flags up dodgy numbers and does anything to stop them using their networks?

Over the years, this scammer has phoned me quite a few times. Luckily, it’s often been when I had a moment to play along and act like I was buying it. I once managed to keep someone chatting for about 20 minutes by pretending I was a bit dazed and thankful they were so patient. When I’ve had enough, I just tell them off for being scammers and hang up. Feels good knowing I might’ve stopped them from conning someone else who’d be less wary.

Today alone they’ve called me three times, with various men and women pretending to be from BT tech support. One time they told me there was an issue with my computer, and the other two times they warned my internet would be cut off for six hours. When I questioned them, they just hung up on me.

So, when I asked the caller who it was, he claimed to be from BT. Then, when I questioned why it appeared as an international number, he said it showed as BT Nottingham because of that. After that, he warned me my internet would be disconnected at midnight, which I just laughed off and ended the call. When I dialled 1471, the number it gave me was 005823.

Got a call from this number, some person saying they were from BT tech support or something! Complete nonsense, I told her off and ended the call cause she kept saying 'ma’am' like I was an old lady or sumthin! Then, a few mins later, they rang back just to say goodbye! Proper irritating!

Recieved a call from 008523 on the morning of 21-05-2016 around 8.05am, saying pretty much what others have mentioned here. I told them my computer was working perfectly and asked if they knew any BT engineers personally. Right after that, they just ended the call. I probably get around three of these calls every week, all trying to trick me into giving them access to my PC.

This number has rung me twice in the last few days. Both times, the person said they were from British Telecom and said my computer was compromised. I told them flat out I didn’t think they were really from BT. The first time I just hung up on them. The second time, after I wouldn’t play along, they warned me my internet would be cut off.

Got three calls within an hour, all from different folks saying they were from BT and that my account was at risk. I asked for a callback number, they gave me some really long number which when I looked up online, didn’t come up at all. Felt really sketchy.

Got a call from some call centre in Asia saying my BT Internet was about to be cut off. When I told them I’m not with BT, they just replied, “We’re aware, but there’s an issue anyway.” Gave them a piece of my mind without any swearing and ended the call. This is the second time I’ve received this call today.

Some bloke called claiming to be Andy Parker from BT with an ID DCM629152. He told me I’d downloaded dangerous files and needed to get on my computer to fix my internet. Ring came through at 7.20 in the morning. He gave me a number, 0280067215, to call back and check if he was legit. A quick google said it’s either a French mobile or an Aussie landline, so could be dodgy. Reckon ‘Andy’ was trying to trick me. Be warned, definitely a risky call asking to get into your computer.

Got a call from someone claiming to be “from British Telecom” saying there was an issue with my computer and trying to get me to let them in remotely. Pretty obvious scam, just trying to trick people into giving access. Definitely a dodgy number and dangerous, especially for folks who might not know better. Feels like they wanted to steal info or cause harm, so this is definitely illegal stuff. The call happened on 18th March 2016, around 9:20 in the morning.

Got a call at 12.20 on 15/03/2016 warning me that my BT internet would be cut off because apparently someone had hacked into it.
