On the 27th of October, about 45 minutes after I’d rung my car insurance broker and got transferred to their claims team to talk about a tiny chip on my windscreen, I got a call from someone named 'Michael'. He sounded Asian and asked if I was alright after an accident today. I told him his call was uncalled for and just hung up. We’re unlisted and signed up to the Telephone Preference Service, so we hardly ever get annoying calls. My insurance broker reassured me they hadn’t done anything wrong, but I still reckon their phone system might’ve been compromised.

Since August 2014, I’ve been bombarded with calls from call centres or robots using hidden or withheld numbers. To tackle it, I bought a BT6400 phone with an answerphone back in Feb 2015, hoping it would block some, but it hasn’t helped much. I’ve set the answerphone to kick in after five rings, though no one’s left a message yet. Maybe I’ll bring it down to four rings so the caller gets charged if they actually leave a message. If it’s important, I’ll get back to them. The worst part is these calls seem to be from automated systems, which feels like they should be banned outright. I’ve changed my number twice now, and it’s still unlisted, yet the calls keep pouring in. I’ve even been signed up with the TPS for a good three years, but it hasn’t made much difference at all. It’s really frustrating!

They keep ringing me up, saying it’s about some claim I supposedly made (which I didn’t) connected to a car crash (something I’ve never been involved in since I don’t even drive).
