Today, I got a call from this number, with a lady on the line who sounded maybe from India. She told me to switch on my computer so she could help me remove viruses that supposedly Microsoft Windows had detected. I found the whole thing quite suspicious. It’s quite worrying thinking some folks might actually follow what they say and get themselves into real trouble. After checking out the number and reading all the other comments, I felt like adding my experience. It’s a shame these scams keep happening without better awareness. Glad this site lets us share what we’ve been through.

Got a call from a bloke named Mike, sounded Asian, claiming he was with Microsoft and my PC was having issues. I told him nothing was wrong, then he just ended the call. The number was 005017605670.

Some bloke said he was from Microsoft and then just started yawning like mad right into the phone. When I told him to take me off their list and not ring me anymore, he just said, "we can't do that." Ridiculous!

Got a call this morning about midday from a bloke named Allan, sounded like he was from India. He claimed to be ringing from Microsoft (which is odd since I use a Mac) and insisted there was a virus on my computer. He asked what was showing on my screen and I said just the internet. Then he wanted me to describe the key on the very left of the keyboard. When he figured out I was on a Mac, he just hung up. I tried to keep the chat going a bit more but he wasn’t having it!

So this number 005017605670 rang me up, and it was this guy with a strong Asian accent. He claimed he was working for Microsoft and kept going on about how my computer had all these dangerous viruses because of something I'd downloaded. I told him there’s no way they could’ve connected my phone number to my PC like that, and then he just ended the call. Seemed like a proper scam to me.

So this lady called me up and start telling me all sorts, saying I’ve got a horrible voice or something. Then outta nowhere, she goes on about wanting to marry me. When I tried ringing my mum back, she just gave up and hung the phone. Proper weird!

I've received a number of calls from this particular digit today. I've configured my phone to alert me with a distinct ringtone, labelling it 'scam', so I hardly even flinch when it rings. They’ll eventually tire of ringing a line that goes unanswered!

Some bloke with an Indian accent called, saying he was from Microsoft. I asked him what he needed, and he just hung up on me. Sounds like a total scam to me.

Had almost the same thing happen to me - this bloke said he was from Microsoft, so I just played along for a few minutes, then told him I wasn't using a Windows PC. Next thing, he started swearing and ended the call. Tried ringing the number back but it just said invalid. Pretty dodgy if you ask me.

Got a quiet call from someone saying they were calling on behalf of Microsoft, and I could tell straight away it was dodgy. I pretended to take it seriously for a few minutes, but when he asked what popped up after I hit the Windows key, I told him it was actually my Linux menu. That’s when he started cursing and calling names, and I just found it hilarious. Should’ve kept the banter going a bit more than just five minutes. Props to anyone putting in more time than me - I’ll give it another go next time!

Had a missed call from this number at about 10:20 this morning but couldn’t answer in time. When I tried 1471, it ended up showing this phone number which looks like it’s from abroad. We’re listed in the X directory but hardly ever use the landline, only a handful of close mates and family know the number. Feels a bit dodgy - is BT handing out our info or selling our number to others? Bit worried about it, not sure what to make of it.

Got a call from some bloke pretending to be from Microsoft, saying my PC was full of viruses. He wanted to get into my computer remotely. I played along for about 25 minutes just messing with him. Then he got really nasty, started hurling insults at me and my family, even threatening harm to my wife and kids. Utterly vile behaviour. Stay well clear of these scammers!

Received a phone call today and it seems I’ve encountered yet another scammer. The call opened with a rather dodgy English accent, “Good day, sir! We are phoning from Microsoft. We’ve noted some error messages from your Windows machine indicating it's not functioning correctly. I’m here to assist you in rectifying the issue.” They claimed my computer was riddled with viruses that were jeopardising its hard drive and memory, and insisted they could fix it right away. I politely interjected, stating, “No thanks, I’ll handle that as I’m an IT expert and have top-notch software at my disposal.” She promptly hung up. Be wary, as these con artists will attempt to get you to install software that grants them access to your system. From there, they can siphon your data, set up key-loggers, or do something sinister like mirroring your screen, giving them insights into your activities in real-time. Fortuitously, I’m a legitimate IT expert, so I was able to sniff out the ruse without delay. Here are a few vital signs to be mindful of: 1. Microsoft typically won't ring you out of the blue to inform you about any virus issues. They wouldn’t have the foggiest idea if your system was compromised. 2. They certainly won’t offer to repair your computer free of charge over the phone. 3. You'll never be asked to download any third-party software from the internet by Microsoft. 4. They can’t contact you unless you’ve reached out to them first and given them your details. Stay alert, everyone!

I got a call from a woman with an Indian accent wanting to talk to the person who owns the house. I told her no and she just hung up on me! After seeing the other comments here, I’m really happy I didn’t say yes!

Today I got a call from 005017605670. I told the guy he wasn’t allowed to call me since I’m registered on the Telephone Preference Service. He was really cheeky about it. When I told him he wasn’t actually calling from Microsoft and called him out on lying, he lost it and told me to F### off before hanging up. Proper rude and annoying behaviour, can’t believe it.

This person claimed to be from Microsoft and started asking me for my bank details. When I hung up after a 36-minute chat, they got really hostile. Surely, Microsoft or someone should be investigating this right away, it’s urgent!

They wouldn’t tell me their name, so they failed the ‘call guardian’ check - real companies always give you their details without any fuss.

Some woman with an Indian-American accent rang me up, claiming she was calling about my computer. I told her she must have the wrong number, but she insisted, "No ma'am, this is about your computer." I said flat out that I don’t own a computer, but she kept pressing, "Are you really sure, ma'am?" It was like she wouldn’t accept my answer. Eventually, I lost my patience and asked if she was thick or something - how could I not know if I had a computer? And then, suddenly, she just hung up on me. Weird experience!
