About half a year ago, I bought a BT8500 cordless phone with three handsets, and since then, I haven't had to deal with a single unwanted call. Honestly, it’s probably the best £60 I’ve spent in a long time. When someone rings, the phone automatically screens the call unless the number is already saved by me. If the caller isn’t recognised, they have to say who they are before I decide whether to accept or reject the call. More often than not, the sales people just hang up straight away instead of trying to get through. Now, I just get a record of the rejected calls but none manage to get past that first screening stage. I’d suggest it to anyone looking to dodge those annoying calls. You don’t need to be with BT, but having caller ID on your landline is essential - most providers offer it, though some may have a fee.

I told this woman from India that I was registered with the TPS, and she just scoffed, saying "yeah, right". I didn't bother wasting more time, just ended the call. These calls are so irritating, seriously, there should be legal ways to block these lot for good!

I got a voicemail where they just said "goodbye" and it was pretty suspicious, so I decided to report it to the ICO. You can easily find how to report spam texts and annoying sales calls by googling it. I'd recommend you do the same. Cheers!

Some bloke with a dodgy accent claiming a fancy European name rang me up, trying to chat about funeral arrangements. I didn’t have time for his nonsense and gave him a quick brush-off.

I received a call from someone claiming to represent "Tripadvisory" (which isn’t the same as TripAdvisor, mind you) stating that I had been on a holiday in the past couple of years and was entitled to a refund. The thing is, when I pressed him for details about the trip-like where I'd supposedly been or who I went with-he couldn’t provide any specifics whatsoever. Quite suspicious, if you ask me!

Today I got a call from someone with an overseas accent claiming to represent a health firm. They said I was due £1000 compensation for any illness I’d had while on holiday over the past three years. Seemed dodgy to me!

Received a call from a chap claiming I had fallen ill while on my holiday. Oddly enough, he couldn’t specify which part of Spain I had supposedly been unwell in, but assured me I could apply for compensation. He presented himself as part of a law firm. Every time I tried to ask something, he dodged my questions and kept insisting that I would be contacted by their legal representative for further queries. Strangely, I never got the chance to speak with this ‘legal expert’.
