11 yearsMy elderly mum, who is 82, got a call from a woman named Jenny Wilson, trying this scam trick on her. The code they gave was GP103 again, and the number they rang from was 02032905985. They were after £210, promising some supposed £8k from the government! Thankfully, my mum was sharp enough to see through it and didn’t fall for the con. From what I’ve read in other comments, these people can get pretty rude if they don’t get their way. I’ve reported this to my local trading standards to hopefully stop them bothering others. Hopefully they stay away for good now.Jenny Wilson11 yearsHad a call from these lot, just like others have mentioned. They gave me some “secret code” thing, GP103 or summat like that. Then they wanted me to ring this number 0203 2875032. I checked it wasn’t premium rate first, then called back out of curiosity. A lady named Florence answered - bit odd for someone Indian, don’t ya think? She told me to take out £210 from my bank and head to the post office. Then if I rang her again, she’d explain how to send a moneygram to some actuary who’d supposedly release £8000 from the government. Complete rubbish if you ask me!Florence11 yearsThis number is linked to scammers based in India. TalkTalk left loads of customers’ private info, even those with unlisted numbers, completely exposed. They haven’t owned up or done anything real to put a stop to the constant calls. Similarly, Ofcom and the ICO haven’t taken any meaningful steps either, even though there’s clearly been a legal breach. Honestly, it’s shocking. Many folks end up getting about five calls daily, without fail. It’s truly disgraceful.IndiaTalkTalkOfcomICO11 yearsGot a call from someone named Johnson claiming I was eligible for an £8000 government grant. The number showed up on my phone as 003475836579. They told me to ring back on 0203 287 5032. I called them back with my number blocked and tried to question the woman who answered, but she just brushed it off like it was nothing. Since my calls don’t cost me anything and I’ve a bit of spare time, I reckon I’ll keep ringing her for a while just for fun :)Johnson11 yearsI got a call from an Asian lady who kept chatting about some £8000 I was supposed to get, saying it was because I paid my taxes properly and had no criminal record. I cut her off and told her I’d just got out of prison for tax fraud and had a court date next week for assault and racism - obviously none of that’s true. She hung up straight away and hasn’t called back since. You can also try telling them you’re a cop and ask for their name, that tends to make them hang up quick too. Honestly, these scammers need to be stopped.11 yearsJust got the usual scam call and thank goodness for caller ID showing where the call’s from. It showed Mozambique on mine. When I called him out, he acted like he didn’t get what I said but quickly got a bit annoyed when I told him I’m no fool for these scams!Mozambique11 yearsJust like the others, my husband played along using a fake name. They ended up giving him a code and a phone number to ring for the payment, which was 02070978684.11 yearsI answered the phone when they rang and said hello, but they just hung up straight away. This kept happening a few times. When I tried calling back, an Asian woman answered and said the number wasn’t real. I told her that can’t be true since they just rang me, and the voice saying the number wasn’t real was actually English, not Asian, and the message didn’t repeat either. It’s really odd.11 yearsGot a call saying I was selected to get £8000 grant, no strings attached, and I could spend it however I wanted. They asked if I wanted it as cash or straight into my account - I just said cash for fun. When they asked for my name, I made one up, then asked how old I needed to be, just to see. They gave me some ‘ID number’ and told me to ring 02032875032 and quote this number to find out how to get the money. Honestly, these types of calls need to be shut down. If someone more gullible had handed over their bank details, what kind of trouble could they get into? It’s scary stuff.couk11 yearsThere was a bit where I didn't catch what the lady was saying, so she repeated herself from the start about some UK government grant. Then she got back to the same bit I couldn't understand, so I asked her to say the last few words again. Out of nowhere she just snapped, telling me to "F##k off, F##k off" before cutting the call. Very rude!UK11 yearsHad another ring today from a guy who sounded like he was from Eastern Europe or somewhere. He was going on about some sort of £8000 grant. I just told him where to shove it. He mentioned the call was on record, so I gave him a mouthful before slamming the phone down. Honestly, made my day a bit better.Eastern Europe11 yearsI’ve had the same sort of thing happen like lots of others here. It’s definitely a scam. Apart from jotting down the number and just ignoring any future calls from it, I’m not sure what else to do. The trouble is, they probably won’t bother ringing from that exact number next time anyway.11 yearsThey ring me daily and it’s really starting to annoy me.11 yearsGot a call from a guy claiming he was with the government, saying I was owed some money because of my age. He told me to ring a different number, 00258900076, and give them a code he provided to access the cash. Honestly, don’t fall for it.11 yearsI got a call telling me I was eligible for 8000, so I asked if they could send me something in writing. Next thing I know, the person just says 'bye' and hangs up! Made me laugh, honestly.11 yearsJust like a few others here, I got a call saying the government was offering me £8,000. They gave me a code, something like MA592, and a number to ring back - 0203 287 5032. The cash would be useful, no doubt. Should I ring them or just ignore it? I’m not too sure yet...11 yearsGot a call from the same lot today, so I asked if they really thought I was daft. They started having a go at me, so I said I’d be putting them through to the local coppers. These are the same mugs who’ve been pestering me for some survey, and I gave them the same treatment till they backed off. Now they’ve switched tactics. I’m in my 60s, but I swear, the stuff I told them wouldn’t sound out of place on a construction site! Just do what I did.11 yearsGot a call from a woman speaking with an Indian accent, loads of noise like people chatting in the background. She was saying I could get a loyalty grant from the "British Government" because I supposedly pay my bills and taxes on time, and have no criminal record. She asked for my address and which state I live in, then went on to ask for both my zip code and post code. Felt fishy straight away, so I just hung up. Pretty obvious scam if you ask me.British Government11 yearsGot a call from a guy who said his name was Jordan and had an asian accent. He claimed to be calling from The British Government in London or something like that. I asked him which Government exactly, and after he repeated himself, I asked if he meant Conservative or Labour. That’s when he just hung up on me.JordanThe British GovernmentLondonGovernmentConservativeLabour11 yearsGot a call from an Asian woman, sounded Indian. I asked where she was ringing from, and she said something about an address in Holborn, London, but her accent was so thick I couldn't catch much. Then I wondered why they're not just sending me a letter or email instead, and out of nowhere, she just cut the call. Proper dodgy behaviour if you ask me.HolbornLondon11 yearsSomebody called me saying I qualify for an £8,000 Government Loyalty grant because I’ve always paid my bills punctually and never been bankrupt. They told me I could get the cash either straight into my bank account or picked up via MoneyGram. Sounds fishy if you ask me!MoneyGram11 yearsGot the same call everyone else is talking about. Pretty clear they were trying to fish out my bank info. Even after I told them I wasn’t buying it, they kept pushing. So I said, “Alright then, I’m feeling generous today. If you’re legit, you can have this cash.” They weren’t having any of it and just told me to piss off! Definitely a scammer.11 yearsIf you’ve been contacted by these fraudsters, it’s really important to let Action Fraud know. You can give them a ring at 03001232040 or just report the incident through their website online. Don’t let these scammers get away with it!Action Fraud11 yearsSeems like loads of folks were lucky with that £8000 grant chat. When I refused to give my name, the bloke started yelling and hurling threats at me before hanging up. Proper unpleasant!11 yearsGot a call from a guy who sounded Asian, telling me the government was giving out free cash, just like the other posts here. Seemed bloody obvious to me it was some sort of con - nobody just hands out money for free! I told him I’m on the TPS list and he said “well” like it meant something. Then I told him I wasn’t daft, knew it was a scam and I’d be reporting it to the cops. Then I slammed the phone down straight away.TPS11 yearsGot a few calls from someone claiming they were based in the UK, giving me a number and some kind of code. They told me I needed to ring that number within half an hour to find out where I could pick up my money. Bit suspicious if you ask me.UK11 yearsI got a call from a woman whose accent was really difficult to make out. She tried to offer me just a thousand quid. When I told her to give it to somebody else, she just hung up on me straight away.11 yearsGot a call from a bloke who sounded Asian and couldn’t even recall his own name. He repeated all the usual lines you’ve probably heard from others here. I avoided mentioning my bank since I wasn’t sure it was a scam at first. Whenever I tried to ask him questions, he dodged them and kept switching topics. When I asked if I’d have to pay back the money he was supposedly sending me, he started sounding annoyed - I think he realised I was wise to the scam. I told him to hold on a sec while I checked if it was legit. By the time I came back, he'd already hung up.11 yearsGot a call from some lady named Christine Lancaster, sounded Asian or something like that. She was talking about a government grant of £8000 and asked if I wanted the money sent to my bank or as cash. They told me to ring this number 02032905985 and give them my claim number MC12. Felt a bit dodgy if you ask me.Christine Lancaster11 yearsGot a call from a guy who sounded Asian, named Jackson. He said I could get £8000 from the UK government as a ‘grant’ because I pay my taxes on time, meant for a “good cause” and not for buying any drugs or anything like that! He kept going with his sales pitch and asked me how I wanted the money sent. Definitely looks like a scam to me, but I can see how some folks might fall for it if they don’t know better.JacksonUK11 yearsGot a call from a bloke with an Indian accent saying I was chosen to get an £8,000 government grant. He went on about how it was because I’d paid my taxes and had no criminal record, exactly like what others have reported. He mentioned Western Union as a way to receive the money. I asked him to send something in writing first and then he just ended the call.Western UnionSubmit Your Own Report (900076)
