My phone rang and the caller ID showed a number from Sierra Leone. Since I've never had any contacts from that country, I thought it was suspicious and decided to look it up on the web. Turns out, it’s a scam. Definitely avoid ringing back that number!

Over the past three days, this scam number has kept pestering my 98-year-old mother-in-law nonstop. It's really upsetting to see such an elderly lady being harassed like this. This kind of behaviour is dangerous and seriously needs to be put to an end.

I've received a couple of calls from this particular number, yet I chose not to pick up as it appeared rather dodgy. After having a look at the international dialling code, it turns out it’s linked to Sierra Leone! I’m inclined to think it’s a scam - I've heard they refer to this as the Wangiri scam. Without hesitation, I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number.

Got a call from +23230575182, but they just rang once then hung up. Seems like it could be a scam, so I’ve blocked the number now.

Got two calls from Sierra Leone on my mobile here in the West Country. First one was from 575181 but lasted just 3 seconds, then a couple hours later I got another from 575182 which stayed on the line for 5 seconds. Ended up blocking both numbers straight away.

Got three missed calls from Sierra Leone numbers recently. On Monday 25th May, I saw a missed call from +232 88 76 24 52. Then, today, the 27th May, two other numbers popped up: +232 30 57 51 81 at about 1 pm GMT+1 and +232 30 57 51 82 around 4 past 4 in the afternoon. I’ve gone ahead and blocked all these, but I reckon they’ve got loads more numbers to keep trying. :(

On 27 May 2020, I got a couple of calls from numbers starting with +232. The first one showed up at 1:28pm and the second at 3:48pm. Both calls only rang once and then stopped before I could pick up. My phone flagged them as "Potential Fraud". I don’t know anyone from Sierra Leone, so I decided to block those numbers straight away. Just a heads up - don’t call them back, could be dodgy!

The phone only rings for a brief moment, like a second or less, before it cuts off. No matter how fast I block them, they just come back calling from numbers with just a few digits changed at the end. I honestly have no clue how these people even got my number in the first place.

Seems like they want you to ring back and then wham, it’s a pricey number charging your account. I have no clue who they are but I'm definitely blocking it now.
