Just got a call from a lady speaking with an Afro-American accent, claiming she was ringing from New York City about some shares I supposedly hold in a company called Blackstar. That got my hackles up straight away since the company went bust a while back, and I'd had a nearly identical call before. When I told her I thought it was a con and mentioned the bankruptcy, she didn’t bother staying on the line and just ended the call. Kinda wished I’d had a bit more time to mess with her a bit, was feeling cheeky enough for it.

However, they will demand you fork out a hefty $5000 for an insurance bond, which they’ll claim will be placed in an escrow account and returned if the deal proceeds. Here’s the kicker: if the deal falls through, you’re left with nothing-no money and definitely no bond returned. I reckon there are folks who might fall for this ruse, so do wise up and ensure you aren’t one of them. What's more, the documentation that comes with the non-disclosure has an air of professionalism, but a bit of digging exposes the New York address and company as complete fabrications. If it sounds too good to be true, it’s most likely a scam!

This is definitely a dodgy operation revolving around shares that have long ceased trading on any Stock Exchange. Claiming to be from New York, this woman insists on sticking to her scripted lines, luring you in with promises of vast sums of cash for shares in a company that her 'client' is apparently eager to buy. You can either hang up straight away or have a bit of fun and string her along, depending on how you're feeling.

I have come across some dubious individuals claiming they can provide "surplus shares" from companies that have been dissolved. They seem to demand payment in advance. There's absolutely no way I'd trust that!
