I got a call from someone who struggled with English, she said her name was Esther from Portman Securities. She mentioned something about my old National Grid shares, which I held a while back. When I asked why she was ringing, she claimed her company was hired by a client to purchase my shares due to a takeover. I didn’t hang around to listen any further.

Got a call this evening from a woman about my Iberdrola shares, you know, what used to be Scottish Power shares. She said someone’s looking to buy a 51% stake and asked if I’d take £15 a share. Thing is, I sold all those shares ages ago. What’s weird is she seemed to have a lot of info about me. Bit fishy, if you ask me. 🤨

Got a call from a bloke with a foreign accent, claiming to check on my British Gas shares. He started off asking for my details like name and address but I don’t own any shares with British Gas so I didn’t give him anything. Total scam, I reckon.

Got a call off a woman, sounded American, wanted to chat to my missus about selling her Centrica shares for some kind of hostile takeover deal. Apparently, some lawyers gave our number to this security firm. I asked if they’d ever heard of privacy laws. Then I handed the phone to my wife who just said quick and sharp, ‘Not selling, buzz off.’ They kept trying to ask loads of questions but didn’t seem to care about the answers. Total SCAM.

28th April 2022 - This number 0016313090433 called me again. The first call was on 26th April, and I already reported it above. Once more, I ignored it and it kept ringing for quite a while but didn’t leave any voicemail. Definitely seems like a scam.

This number kept ringing for ages, which seemed pretty dodgy since I didn’t know who it was. After a good few minutes, it finally stopped, but no voicemail was left behind. Just in case it was one of those sneaky calls still waiting on the line, I didn’t even bother to answer. Honestly, I’m getting more and more cautious with these random numbers now!

My mobile rang earlier and I immediately thought it might be some scam, so I just hung up. Later, the same number popped up on my landline, which has an answer machine, so I went ahead and blocked it. These calls are getting pretty annoying, but at least I’ve got the hang of ignoring them by now.

I got a call from a woman speaking with an American accent claiming she was interested in buying my cable and wireless stocks. I explained I don’t own any shares at all, but she insisted they could be listed under Liberty Global. Even after I told her again I don’t hold shares in those businesses, she said she’d ring back. Next time, I’ll be ready to tell her straight it’s a scam and to shove off.

I had almost the exact same call back on 9 Feb 2022. Someone wanted to purchase my Centrica shares, said I needed to sign a non-disclosure agreement, claimed it was all very confidential and was offering me about ten times the current price. They also mentioned some kind of insurance bond. Sounds like a total scam if you ask me. Big thanks to the folks running this site for helping spot these dodgy calls!

Got a call from a Felicity Fitzherbert, who said she was with Ferndown (?) Capital Partners. She wanted to buy my Baronsmead Venture Capital Trust shares, but I sold those ages ago - probably 15 years back. When I asked for a callback number, she gave me 01315 839159. Seems like a total con, especially after reading others’ experiences here. Definitely looks dodgy.

So I got a call from 0016313090433 claiming its about some shares but they wanted me to sign a non disclosure agreement cause its all confidential. Seemed a bit dodgy, especially when they messed up the company name on the next call. Lucky I found this site cos it really helps spotting these things. Honestly, if it sounds like a great deal, be careful, might just be a scam!

This number has rung me loads and it’s the same deal as what others have said here. The person is pretty good at talking you through some kind of secret takeover plan, insisting over and over that everything said is hush-hush. They send an email with an NDA to sign, then call again to talk about share details and a buying offer. Next up, they mention an insurance bond that needs to be signed and sent back, and say a contract will be emailed too. After seeing what others wrote about this number, I just block any calls from it now.

They never mentioned who they were. Proper rude and kept ringing me like 5 or 6 times even after I told them to stop calling. I could hear her chuckling when I said that. Honestly, I wouldn’t pick up if I were you, sounds like a total scam.

Some bloke rang me claiming there was a process I had to finish to get extra shares in Vodaphone because apparently I already owned some. I quickly told him I didn’t have any shares with Vodaphone and was about to hang up. Then, he rang me back straight away but I cut the call off right away. We usually don’t pick up if it’s a number we don’t know. They rang us two times back to back but didn’t leave a voicemail. Maybe they called because I held shares once. Also, our number isn’t listed, which makes it even stranger.

I got a call from a woman who told me I supposedly owned shares in a firm, and they wanted to buy them off me. She tried to convince me these shares were really mine and valuable, but said I had to pay a fee upfront - like a cut of the share price - to seal the deal. She promised the money would be refunded if the sale didn’t happen. Of course, that never happens. It was a bit tricky keeping up with what she was saying, but that was the basic idea. Please don’t get caught out by this kind of scam.

Got a call from a US number claiming to be from Green Hill International, said they had a fancy website with fax numbers too. They were trying to get me to buy Vodafone shares priced between £6 and £12. They asked me to sign a confidentiality agreement and said I’d have to speak with their insurers.
