10 yearsWhen the phone rang, it honestly freaked me out a bit.10 yearsBack on 15 July 2016, I got a really worrying call from a woman with a strong Indian accent that was hard to understand. She told me to get in touch with Pete Marshall at the IRS on 917-877-7028 or else they’d start legal action against me over unpaid taxes. I rang the number she gave me and ended up speaking to a man named Shawn Williams, whose accent was just as difficult to follow. He said my 2013 tax return was prepared wrong and that I owed almost £5000 in overdue tax. Shawn also asked for my lawyer’s name and mentioned that the IRS had sent someone to my house to serve legal papers, plus a certified letter that supposedly never arrived to me. Honestly, I have no clue what any of this is about.
