So, at this moment, that number is definitely associated with CRA, particularly for matters related to GST/HST registration. I can’t help but add ‘for now’, though, as the lovely lady from the CRS mentioned that they can easily spoof outgoing numbers. Just thought I’d share! They were supposedly checking up on a new GST/HST account that my husband-who's out of town at the moment-has supposedly opened. He’s dabbled in a new project, but it's not a brand-new business per se, which made me suspicious that perhaps his details might have been misappropriated by someone else. Naturally, I turned to the internet to verify if this "Collection Verification Branch" was genuine; however, I couldn’t find any trace of it. A quick search of the number led me to this site. To put it plainly, I won’t be returning their call to 855.236.0166 as they requested. Instead, I'll contact the CRA using one of their official numbers. Thanks a lot for gathering this info-it’s really appreciated! I do wonder though, why aren’t the telecom companies taking action to protect us from these scams?
