To my astonishment, the call was answered almost instantly, as if they were lying in wait for me to ring them. Honestly, which helpline operates like that? Without giving it too much thought, I shared my concern about the UPI ID issue. The chap on the other end asked for my name, which I provided. Then he inquired about my location. That’s when it clicked-what if I was actually speaking to the scammer? It sent me into a bit of a frenzy, and I swiftly hung up. The way he communicated gave off a distinctly dodgy vibe as well.

On the evening of 16th March 2013, precisely at 22:35, I received a rather peculiar phone call. When I picked up, I was taken aback to hear the sound of my own voice echoing back to me, as if I were speaking on loudspeaker. The call abruptly went silent. Moments later, at 22:39, another ring came from an anonymous number, and wouldn't you know it, I could hear my own voice again before the line went dead. Then, just a minute later at 22:40, I had yet another call, this time from +9131886307, and once again, my voice filled the line before it cut off. I attempted to send a text to the other number, but it didn’t go through. I tried the +9 number next, which seemed to send but was later marked as failed. Quite odd, really, as texts usually end up in your outbox. To say I was utterly spooked would be an understatement!

I’m over here in New Zealand and just noticed I missed a call from that odd number. How annoying!
