I had a rather peculiar phone call on the 5th of September, 2016. The chap on the other end introduced himself as Ricky Dawson, and he had a bit of an accent that made me think he was from Europe. He claimed to be affiliated with Microsoft and insisted that he could resolve an issue with my computer, which had bizarrely frozen on a screen. According to him, if I didn't ring the number he provided, my machine was bound to crash completely. He mentioned he hailed from Virginia and even gave me an employee number, MS090516SY01, as a sort of identification. Fortunately, he managed to get hold of my credit card details, but I was lucky because the sum he quoted for his 'services' was never actually taken. I have since gone ahead and cancelled that card to be on the safe side.
