I received a rather dodgy pop-up on my laptop, instructing me to ring 855-841-4777, claiming to be from Microsoft. Naturally, I was sceptical and gave them a bell. They seemed to want remote access to my computer-absolutely not! When I requested a callback number, they provided me with the same 855 number. I promptly declined their offer. Let’s be clear, Microsoft doesn’t send pop-ups or solicit calls. They certainly don’t take control of your device without a fee. Best to steer clear of these scams!

***I received a call that appeared to be from someone in my contacts, but when I picked up, it switched to being an unknown number. They claimed to be from Dell Support. I requested a callback number, and when I dialled it, I ended up back with the same people-definitely not Dell Support since I was answered directly and not through the usual automated messages. They asserted they were following up on a complaint regarding my sluggish computer, but I only ever use US-based support and I’ve never lodged any such complaint. They stated they don’t communicate via email because my drivers are malfunctioning and insisted on handling it themselves to ensure everything is sorted correctly. They had an accent that sounded Indian to me, albeit they claimed to be situated in Florida, which is peculiar as that’s not where Dell's support centre operates.
