My laptop suddenly showed a message telling me to ring 855-841-4777, claiming it was Microsoft. I called the number out of curiosity, but they immediately started asking to access my computer. I wasn’t having any of it. When I asked for a proper callback number, he just repeated that same one. I made it clear I wasn’t interested. Microsoft would never send pop up alerts like this or ask you to phone them, and definitely won’t remotely take control of your PC without charging or proper verification.

I got a call that showed up as someone from my Contacts, but after I ended it, the number popped up as ‘unknown’. They said they were from Dell Support. When I asked for a callback number, I called back and the same people answered. The number they gave me definitely wasn’t Dell - someone picked up straight away, no usual Dell automated message. They said they were following up on a complaint about my slow computer, but I’m with US-based Dell support and didn’t even make any complaint. They told me they don’t send emails because my drivers are failing and they need to fix it remotely so nothing breaks. They sounded like they had an Indian accent, but said they were based in Florida, which isn’t where Dell actually has support. Pretty fishy if you ask me.
