So, I ended up ringing this number I found on a website after my PC froze. Honestly, I fell for their story and even let them control my computer remotely. They told me I was infected with a Zeus virus and quoted me £230 for fixing it. They made it seem like they were from Microsoft, which I now know was a load of rubbish. After doing some digging on my own, I realised it was a scam. By the time I figured it out, they’d been on my machine for about 10 minutes. I phoned them again, told them to get lost, and took back control. I shut the computer down and made sure to disable remote access when I turned it on again. Not sure how much damage they caused yet, but I’ll have to have a professional look at it. Weirdly, they also got rid of all my desktop shortcuts.
