9 yearsRegrettably, I dialled a number I stumbled upon online after my computer froze up. I feel quite embarrassed to admit that I was convinced by their spiel and granted them remote access. They claimed my machine was infected with a Zeus virus and offered to clear it for £229.99. They had me believing they were affiliated with Microsoft. After doing a bit more digging, it dawned on me that it was nothing short of a con job. I'd let them fiddle about with my computer for roughly ten minutes. When I rang them back to confirm their affiliation, it was clear they weren’t connected to Microsoft at all, so I ordered them off my system. I regained control and powered the machine down. I’m unsure what damage may have been done, but I’ll certainly need to have it checked.
