Whilst I was perusing Pinterest on Safari, a rather alarming notification appeared on my phone, claiming that it had detected a virus and urged me to ring a number for Apple support to resolve the issue. I must admit, I refrained from making that call.

I received a message on my iPhone claiming that my computer was infected with a virus and that I needed to ring this number, purportedly for Apple support, to resolve the issue.

Just wanted to send out a warning regarding this number on behalf of a pal. While she was in the midst of settling her bills on her iPad, a pop-up message appeared out of nowhere, urging her to ring this number. It claimed there was an issue with her tablet and that her bank account had been breached. Naturally, she fell for it and gave them a bell, only to find themselves trying to persuade her to grant them access to her computer remotely. Thankfully, she realised something was amiss and hung up. However, upon calling back, they demanded a payment of £99. Do yourself a favour and steer clear of this number!
