I got a voicemail from a woman who tried to sound like some kind of automated message, saying she was from Enercare. Being a bit curious, I called back. A woman answered and asked for my name, but then I suddenly heard a child’s voice in the background, which made me a bit uneasy. When she started asking for more details, I asked why she needed that info and if she didn’t already have it on file, also telling her I wasn’t aware of any issues with Enercare. That’s when she started changing her tone, like she was trying to keep up the act. Then she said if I was worried about giving out my info, I could just ring Enercare myself using the number on my bill. I told her yeah, I’d do that because I didn’t think she was legit, and I just hung up.

I missed a call from this number last night when I couldn’t pick up. I then rang my electricity company just to check, and they told me it wasn’t them who’d tried calling.

I just got a call telling me I owed money on a hydro bill and if Covid had affected my finances, I could arrange a payment scheme. Thing is, I’ve never had a hydro account myself here in Ontario. All my utilities are included and sorted by my landlord. Unless my landlord forgot to pay and somehow put the account in my name instead of his, which would be a real nightmare, I’m convinced this call was dodgy and probably a scam.

After looking up the number, I decided to ring them back and pretended to be from the xyz fraud team. I said something like, "Hi, this is the fraud department. With your voice recorded here, you'll be tracked down and locked up!" It was a bit silly, I know, but honestly, it felt really satisfying. Anyway, I ended up blocking the number straight away.

This was totally a scam. Got loads of messages on my voicemail over a couple of days. The person sounded super legit but I didn’t fall for it and didn’t share any personal details. She only gave me a first name, Debbie, with no proper info. Plus, the number isn’t even linked to Enercare - it’s actually from the States.

I rang Enercare using the number on my recent bill. Every agent I spoke to said that the number 1-844-677-6659 doesn’t show up in their system at all. They also told me that Enercare never phones customers straight away asking for personal details, nor do they usually leave voicemails like that. Sounds dodgy to me.

Got a missed call from this number and found a voicemail about my electricity bill. Turns out I was a few days behind on payment, only because the bill arrived on the very same day it was due. The caller mentioned the delay might be because of the Canada Post strike. They also suggested creating an online account to make sure I receive bills on time and avoid late payments. So yeah, I reckon this number is genuinely from Enercare.

I keep getting calls from these people every single day, and they always leave a message asking me to ring them back. Thing is, they’re after someone I’ve never come across, even though I’ve had this number for years now. Today’s call didn’t even make my phone ring, it just went straight to voicemail.

From what I’ve gathered reading others’ experiences, it seems to be a debt collecting company doing the rounds for Enercare. If you decide to call them back, be ready to tell them you’ll report them to the FTC for breaking the FDCPA rules. That usually puts a stop to their persistent calls.

Its a saturday afternoon when i got a call, someone wanted to talk to my mate Mr F.

Mr F owns a flat in the city which he rents out and I look after it for him. The person on the line claimed to be from Enercare and asked for Mr F’s DOB to verify I was him. I explained I’m actually managing the property for him and she could discuss anything with me instead. But she wouldn’t have it. When I called back, it just went to voicemail.

Seems a bit dodgy, maybe a scam...

I rang up EnerCare to check things out. Turns out the calls were from a debt collection agency acting for EnerCare about some unpaid amount on my account. So yeah, it seemed legit... but I chose to sort it out straight with EnerCare myself.

The person who rang me sounded really professional. They left a message on my voicemail, and when I tried calling back, I was told I was fourth in the queue with about a ten minute wait. But this number isn’t for Enercare at all. The one listed on my bill is completely different, and the office hours they mentioned in the message are definitely not true.

I'm honestly not certain if this number really belongs to Enercare. I've had such a nightmare trying to get my bill from them on time. Loads of times, I don't even bother paying until I get the late payment notice through the post. I tried calling this number twice. The first time, it just disconnected on me while I was on hold. The second time, I got someone who said she was from Enercare. She wanted my email as a security check, but I didn't think Enercare had that email on file for me. So, I told her to send a message to the one they do have and I'd reply from there. Could be a scam, who knows? I'd say ask them to reach you through a different way instead. If they're actually Enercare, they'll get in touch somehow, if not, well, they won’t.
