Received a call from 1-844-528-0423 claiming to be 'CBV Collection Services' acting for the City of North Bay. Thing is, we've never set foot in North Bay, never been residents, never owned anything there, and as far as we know, no relatives have ever lived there either. So when they mentioned the City of North Bay, I got suspicious straight away (now I see why). This exact number has rung us up before, but I can't recall the story the last caller was spinning.

I got a call from a woman with an Indian accent who said my son’s name and asked me to verify his date of birth and address. The number she called from was 1-844-528-0423 extension 11019. She kept insisting it was something urgent regarding the city of Toronto. I looked it up online and ended up here, so I’m just letting everyone know about it.

WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS! Don’t ever share your personal details. I got a call on my mobile from a woman who said her name was “Kush,” claiming to be looking for my son. She insisted he had to ring the City of Toronto at 1 844 528 0423 ext 61029 but refused to give any proper info or confirm anything. Total scam alert!
The calls on my phone came from 289 748 1696 and 289 748 1664, both numbers showing Brampton, Ontario. SCAM ALERT!
To all Canadians: if any government department or city office needs to get in touch, they’ll always send official paperwork in the post. They don’t just call you up randomly.
Do not respond to these SCAMMERS!

Absolute SCAMMERS!! Don’t ever share your details with strangers on the phone. I got a call on my mobile from a woman who said her name was "Kush" and sounded like she was from Pakistan. She wanted to speak to my son and told me he had to ring the City of Toronto at 1 844 528 0423 ext 61029. But she refused to give me any proof or explain further. Total SCAMMERS!!
My phone logged the numbers 289 748 1696 and 289 748 1664, both based in Brampton, Ontario. SCAMMERS!
To all Canadians, just a heads up: if any official government body or municipal office needs to reach you, they always send a formal letter first. They do not just call you out of the blue.

My boyfriend got a call on his number where they were asking for me. When I rang back, the woman on the line was quite rude and demanded my phone number to check if I was the one wanting the number taken off. I wasn’t convinced and asked how I could be sure the call was legit.

I tried not to give them any details but the caller was really insistent, asking for a phone number and department at the City. I've gotten loads of calls from this number supposedly from the City of Thunder Bay, always wanting my ex to ring them back. They even left a voicemail once, sort of garbled, asking my ex to get in touch soon. I didn't bother forwarding it since the person barely said their name properly. They ring up to four times daily which is really irritating!

I keep getting texts that call me by my maiden name, which is from over six years ago when I got married. The messages always have some sort of reference number and a phone number to ring, along with a line saying "not a solicitation." They have tried ringing me loads of times. I keep blocking the texts but they keep using different numbers to send new ones. I once picked up a call from a woman I could barely hear who said she needed to talk to me about something. When I asked who it was, she claimed to be from the City of Thunder Bay. She wanted my date of birth but I refused to give it. Now I get calls several times a day, and the few I do pick up immediately hang up. It’s really annoying!

For ages now, I’ve been receiving texts that address me by my maiden name, which I changed ages ago after getting married. Each message includes some sort of reference number and a phone number to ring back, always claiming “this isn’t a solicitation”. They’ve rang me quite a few times too. I keep blocking the texts but it’s like they keep changing numbers to get through. Once I picked up a call from a woman whose accent was hard to understand, and she said she needed to talk about something important. When I asked who she was, she said it was the City of Thunder Bay. She asked for my birthdate but I refused to give it. Since then, I’m getting calls multiple times a day, and whenever I answer, the call just ends. It’s so annoying!!

CBV Collection Services Ltd are absolute nightmares. They've been blowing up my phone non-stop just because I share a surname with the person they want. It's beyond me how they're still allowed to operate. I’ve lost count of how many calls and texts I’ve received from them - must've been close to a hundred by now. They purchase old credit debts from banks and other places, then keep hassling over stuff that’s well past ten years old. Don’t be fooled into paying anything over 7 years old - the statute of limitations means they’ve no right to chase you, and it won’t affect your credit at all. Honestly, these lot are just lowlife scammers who’ve clearly got no other way to earn a crust. Avoid them at all costs!

Today I had a robocall where they kept asking for my son who moved out ages ago. They gave some sort of reference code and said he needs to ring them back. Claimed to be from a debt collection agency or something.

My wife's phone rang and the person on the other end wanted to speak to me. They started asking for my details and when I asked what for, they said they were calling from the city of Barrie. The address they mentioned was from when I was a kid, like 12 years old and way before I got my licence. Honestly, no clue how they got hold of my wife's number either. Pretty annoying and unsettling call!

That number rang me but I ignored it cause I figured it was just some sales call. Later on, they left a voicemail claiming to be from TD collections and gave that phone number to call back. They even used my late husband’s name, which was weird since he passed away three and a half years ago and never owed anything. Curious, I rang them back and they insisted he had a $500 debt plus some loan from Money Mart. Not convinced, I then contacted the Money Mart branch in Welland, and the lady there told me my husband’s name didn’t appear in their records at all and warned me it’s likely a scam. She advised me to just block their calls from now on.
