I described the problem and was told I’d get a call back - sure enough, someone rang me. I naturally thought it was HP or one of their official partners on the line. Turns out, it was a company called iTech Services. They claimed my PC had serious issues like an insecure local network and critical errors in the Event Viewer, but after checking for myself, none of those were actually problems. Trusting them, I ended up paying £199 for a repair service. They remotely accessed my computer and installed an app called "SSL Guard.exe" on my desktop, which they said was a firewall. But it was just an icon, no real program running. Later I ran a scan with Malwarebytes and it flagged the file as a Trojan, so it went straight into quarantine.HPiTech ServicesMalwarebytes4 yearsThey ring up old folks pretending to offer tech support, then try to get you to sign up for some $200 contract.
