8 yearsI got a call from 888-555-1212 on my husband’s mobile. The person said he owed £4200 and that it would be sent to collections unless he paid £3000 now or set up payments. Since I’m the one who manages our bills, I knew this was wrong. When my husband tried to call back, the caller refused to share any details without me giving the last 4 digits of his Social Security number or his birth date. I told them no, and asked for the company name instead, but they just wouldn’t say. I asked for a phone number to call, and they gave the same one that initially called us. I had already tried it though, and it just went to some directory assistance or something like that. I pointed this out and they then gave me a different number. But when I called that one and asked the company about the debt, they just hung up on me. The first caller was a bloke, but the second time a woman answered. They claimed they got my number from a relative or friend and said it was about a private business issue. When I pressed for more details about who they were, the call ended abruptly.
