They were threatening to hand it over to collections but offered to settle for £3000 in instalments. Since I'm the one who manages our finances, I was well aware that we shouldn't owe that amount. When my husband tried to ring them back, they insisted on having the last four digits of his National Insurance number or his date of birth before divulging any information. I firmly declined and requested the name of the company instead, but the bloke on the other end was quite unyielding. I asked him for a contact number to call back, and he just repeated the same one that had already shown up, which, rather suspiciously, redirected to a directory assistance line. I pointed this out, and he provided me with an alternative number. However, when I rang that, the line went dead both times - first with a chap and then with a woman.
