On the afternoon of 11th September 2017, at about 1:30, I found a voicemail warning me that my Windows 10 licence had run out and that all my services would be cut off that day. The message urged me to ring 1-844-228-0193 right away to stop it from happening. Instead of calling, I decided to look the number up on Google, and it soon became clear it was a dodgy scam.

Got a voicemail and text saying my microsoft licence had expired and to ring this number to sort it out. I didn’t call back though. Instead, I looked the number up online and found out it was dodgy. Cheers Google for saving me from that!

I got a call from that number but they told me to ring a different one back. The voicemail said something like “Free 1-855-515-1131. This is urgent. Your Microsoft Windows license key has expired. To renew it, please call the toll free 1-855-515-1131.” Sounded dodgy to me.

Got a voicemail saying my Microsoft license key was expired and it was urgent. I called back the number and a guy answered, said his name was Jerry. When I asked where he worked, he said Microsoft, and that the office was in Los Angeles. The bloke’s accent sounded like it was from India. He asked if I was by my computer and I told him I’d ring back later. He told me to make sure I ask for Jerry. Then I just ended the call.
