There was a moment of silence right after I answered, and then an ominous automated voice chimed in, threatening that my National Insurance would be revoked if I didn’t respond. It felt rather sinister, and I quickly recognised it as a scam. However, I can see how someone might be rattled enough to divulge personal information. Curiously, the call seemed to originate from the US, yet the voice had a distinctly British twang.
