I recently received a phone call from someone claiming to be from Apple, advising me to avoid logging onto the internet. The thing is, I don’t even own any Apple products! So, naturally, I ended the call and jumped online to investigate whether this was a dodgy scam. Crazy, right?

It seems they've now shifted their narrative to Amazon. A caller left a voicemail claiming there was an issue with my Amazon order and that I needed to ring them to sort it out with one of their so-called Amazon experts. Naturally, I hopped online to check the status of my orders, and lo and behold, everything has been dispatched! There's absolutely no way I'd ever dial the number they provided (1-844-940-3746), and to add insult to injury, they capped it off with a "thank you for choosing Amazon." I firmly avoid calling the numbers they suggest; instead, I go straight to the official channels of the company in question.

I received a rather alarming message suggesting that my iCloud account had been compromised. To make matters worse, I had also been inundated with alerts indicating that my iCloud storage was nearing its limit. After chatting with the person, they oddly requested my IP address, which instantly set off alarm bells in my mind. I insisted that he ring me back at a later time and that it would be best for him to discuss things with my partner instead.

I received a call earlier and had a strong suspicion it was dodgy, so I hit 1 to see what would happen, but the line cut off. Then, lo and behold, I got another call and actually ended up speaking to someone. I thought about having some fun with him, but when he asked what I needed, I simply replied, "I haven't a clue, mate. You rang me!" He had the nerve to say I was the one who called him. What a tosser! In the end, he just hung up on me. Can you believe these blokes actually think we should just hand over our details without a fight?

I received a call from a number that was associated with 1800 MYAPPLE. The chap on the other end claimed that my computer had been compromised in 28 different facets-referred to it as level 5 hacking, if you can believe that. He insisted I purchase some gift cards from Target to resolve the issue and wouldn’t let me hang up, saying repairs were underway during our conversation. He also assured me that I’d be reimbursed for the gift cards I bought. Almost instantaneously, I was provided with what looked like an official receipt. In total, he managed to con me out of £3000 worth of Target gift cards, which were subsequently used at a Target location in California.

I missed a call from this number yesterday, and then received another one today - but it came up as an unknown caller. I picked up the phone, greeted them with a 'hello,' and could hear my own voice echoing back on their side. Then, right after that, they just hung up! Quite peculiar, isn't it?

Received a rather dubious call this morning from someone claiming to be from Apple. As soon as I pressed '1', I was put through to a rather unpleasant chap who insisted that someone was attempting to breach my files linked to my Apple account in Ohio. The thing is, I only use my Apple ID for my iPad music. When he demanded the serial number of my device, I hadn’t even completed my response before expressing my doubts about the legitimacy of the call. His reaction was rather offhand, as he replied, “We’re just from Apple trying to assist you, but if you don’t wish to engage, that’s your choice.” What a cheek! I swiftly ended the call - absolutely ridiculous!

Absolutely fraudulent, this! The chap claimed that my iCloud account had been compromised, and in order to rectify the issue, he demanded a £500 gift card. He insisted I should run out to buy it while he remained on the line. That’s when my instincts kicked in and I became wary. Once he realised I wasn't budging on the gift card, he sent me a dodgy link, claiming it would enable him to sort out my account via my laptop. Regretfully, I clicked on it, and before I knew it, he had access to my screen. I could see everything he was doing - rifling through my personal photos in my files. When I queried his actions, he began deleting files from my desktop without a second thought. I swiftly disconnected and powered down my laptop in a panic. What a nightmare!

I suspect I've been targeted by a fraudulent scheme. I received a call from an 800 number claiming my Apple ID was under threat, supposedly from two separate locations. I picked up the call and pressed 1 as instructed, only to be put through to some representative who proceeded to ask me to tweak my settings. Received a dodgy call claiming there were some strange doings with my Apple account, and they urged me to ring a specific number. I was on the verge of granting them access when I thought to ask what they actually needed it for. The chap on the other end, with a thick Indian accent, couldn't provide a clear explanation. I just received a voicemail from this number, claiming my Apple device was compromised and advising against any financial transactions. They prompted me to press 1, which I did, and then I found myself chatting to a gentleman with an Indian accent. He recited the same spiel I'd heard others mention. When he inquired about my location and I mentioned I was at work, he promptly ended the call. If this number reaches out to you, it's best not to answer, though if you do, why not have a bit of fun with the caller? Just make sure to keep your personal details to yourself!

Indeed, I foolishly decided to return a call. It prompted me for a number, so I provided them with one I discovered today was dodgy. Odd, isn't it? Two calls in a single day? There's got to be a connection, right? Blimey! What on earth is going on?

In the space of just twenty minutes, my phone buzzed with three separate calls - two of them from this particular number. The second call could easily have been from the same individual, merely using a different number to disguise their identity. At this point, I've adopted a policy of ignoring calls from unknown numbers. If the matter is genuinely urgent, I trust that the caller will leave a voicemail. Curiously enough, none of these three attempts resulted in a voicemail being left, which leads me to strongly suspect that this is nothing more than a scam. Interestingly, while the number appears to be legitimate, the extent of number spoofing has really escalated.

As someone employed by Apple, I can assure you that this information is spot on. We only initiate calls when a customer specifically requests to speak directly with us, and those calls will always come from our verified contact numbers. Unfortunately, there are nefarious individuals out there who are hijacking our phone numbers. They use various applications to disguise their identities, allowing them to send messages that appear to originate from different numbers. This is precisely what these fraudsters are doing; they manipulate our numbers so that when unsuspecting customers search online, it links back to Apple, making it seem quite legitimate. Rest assured, these calls are definitely not from us.

I just received a call on my mobile claiming that my Apple account had been compromised. So, I probed further and asked him if I were to search for his number, would it seem genuine. He confidently replied that it indeed would. However, the moment I started to look it up and informed him it was a scam, he abruptly disconnected the call. Quite dodgy, if you ask me!

I've been bombarded with multiple calls from this number lately. I’m on an Android, so it’s quite baffling as to why an Apple device would be ringing me. Honestly, if only a certain orange could ring me up for a proper chat, I’d happily wring it dry!

I tend to ignore calls from unfamiliar numbers, but I do like to ring them back to satisfy my curiosity. So, I did just that and was greeted by some sort of automated voice claiming I had reached APPLE. It seems highly improbable that they would be reaching out in such a manner, don’t you think?
