I told him we weren’t interested because I assumed he was trying to push his services on us. Then he went on about us being charged too much over the past three months for the machine. What’s odd is we changed to different software ages ago and haven’t even used that terminal for over half a year, maybe even longer, since we process cards online now. Aaron wanted me to send a statement from our old processor so they could supposedly give us a refund for the extra charges... total scam to me. I took down his email and details and said I’d check it out. He said he’d ring back in an hour, but never did. They were representing Centurylink Communications about a debt I owed. At first, they came off pretty cold and straight to the point, barely showing any emotion regardless of what your situation might be. Honestly, I thought it was some kind of scam and hung up on them on my first try. Then I spoke to a debt lawyer who told me even if the debt wasn’t showing on my credit report, if I can’t prove it’s not mine, it’s better to settle. Apparently, going to court could mean I’d be stuck not just with the debt but court fees too, if they had any proof I opened the account. So I gave them a ring back and managed to settle for about 500 quid less than their original demand.
