I always make sure to check unknown numbers before picking up or calling back. NEVER give out your Social Insurance Number or PIN on the phone - no matter who they claim to be. Legit government officials or anyone else should never ask for that info via phone. Always be cautious!

A bit ago, someone rang me saying they were from Virgin Mobile. It was in the afternoon. They didn’t bother with the usual asking for me bit, just blurted out my name straight away. Then they gave some rubbish excuse and just ended the call. Bit weird if you ask me.

They usually claim to be calling from Bell Mobility and want you to settle a bill with them. They won't request your PIN, so it's a good idea to have one set up in the first place. If they do start asking for your PIN, try giving a random number - a genuine Bell rep will likely ask you to repeat it, but a scammer will just pretend it’s fine and keep going.
