Limits on spending simply don't cut it when it comes to dodgy charges from third parties. The best course of action is to request a complete block on any direct billing. Companies like O2, Vodafone, and EE can set this up for you without a hitch. Unfortunately, Three doesn't have any options in place to safeguard against these sorts of fraudulent fees.

I was rather surprised when I got a message from the number 79050 on Christmas Eve, only to discover later that they'd hit me up with a charge for it! Quite the festive surprise, I must say!

Got a message from mcom saying they took £3.00 from me for a text, and to get that money back I had to go to the post office. I looked at my mobile bill with Three and sure enough, they’d added £3.00 on. Sounds like a total con to me. Mobile companies really ought to be sorting this and giving customers their money back.

Got a message on 24th December wishing me a Merry Christmas and all that. Then yesterday I got two texts saying I'd been overcharged and to take a barcode to the post office for a refund. I looked at my phone bill and noticed it had charged me £3.00. Got in touch with my provider, Three, and they said they'd try to cancel the charge, but my bill is due today so I’m not too optimistic. It's really worrying how these scammers can send texts that end up costing you. I've blocked the number now, but I’m a bit worried more scam texts might come through.

Be careful with number 79050. On Christmas Eve 2020, I got a text wishing me a merry Christmas, but I had no clue who sent it. Later on, I found out it cost me £2.50! Then today, I got another message claiming to be from the post office, saying I could get a £3 refund if I went to my nearest one. Seems dodgy to me!

On Christmas Eve, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a message extending festive greetings, only to discover later that a charge of £2.50 had magically appeared on my bill! After reaching out to O2 for some clarity, they suggested I send a text saying STOP to 79050 or give a ring to 03333 137900. Curiously, they didn't mention anything about a refund, but should I find myself billed again, rest assured I’ll be lodging a complaint. It’s evident that O2 is aware of these pesky messages; therefore, they ought to have a method to prevent such charges from sneaking in!

On 24/12/20, £3 was taken from my GiffGaff credit without warning. Today, I got a message saying I need to visit the post office with some code to get a refund!? Why can’t GiffGaff just sort the refund themselves? Now I’ve got to leave the house and figure out something I don’t understand, all in the middle of a lockdown! This is ridiculous, seriously, are they even for real? Properly annoyed here.

On the 24th of December I got a text and then was charged £2.50 just to get it. Today I got two more messages saying I could claim a refund from the post office, but it’s obvious it’s a scam. I’m currently sorting it out with o2.

I've just received a bill for a text message that I neither sent nor requested. To top it off, I'm no longer an O2 customer; it's been two years since I left. I reckon it's time to escalate matters and get in touch with the Information Commissioner!

Got a message from some company - mcomltd, I think - with a barcode to claim £3 back at the post office. Before that, they’d sent me a text wishing me merry Christmas from their team, which was a bit odd. Then, they followed up saying the previous message was a mistake but still offered the refund. Quite strange if you ask me!

I’ve always been hesitant to text my number for competitions or charitable donations because I can never quite pin down what the charges might be. Imagine my outrage when I discovered that my mobile number had been misused without my consent! I’ll definitely be pursuing the refund they’ve promised. This is a clear violation of my privacy! I never authorised this number to be contacted, nor did I agree to any of it. They need to be put out of business! What a bunch of crooks!

I received a text message too, claiming I could reclaim my £3. So, I went down to the post office, and lo and behold, they handed over the cash without a hitch. Now, part of me wonders if this whole thing was a clever ploy by the phone company; they send out the message, apologise, and expect that only a few people will actually go through with it. Honestly, if you’re in the same boat, my suggestion would be to go and retrieve your money!

This number sent me a text recently. I rang O2 and they ended up giving me a refund. Be careful, don’t respond to their messages cause they’ll take money off you again. It’s definitely dodgy. Best thing to do is get in touch with your mobile provider right away.

I'm in a similar boat, received the identical text. I reached out to O2, and they informed me it was indeed a scam. They claimed I had enrolled in some service, but I refuted that claim. They then connected me back to the company, but it was merely a recorded message. I left a note stating I would be involving the police due to this being a fraudulent operation. Thankfully, O2 has refunded my money and advised me to text STOP to the number, which I’ve done promptly. Nevertheless, I still plan to report this to the police, as it seems many other O2 customers are caught up in this scam as well.

Got hit with a £2.50 premium text from 79050. Tried sorting it with O2, and although they didn’t actually remove the charge, they did add £3.00 credit back to my account, so that’s a bit of a win I suppose.

Received a cheeky text on Christmas Eve, and to my surprise, I was hit with a £2.50 fee even though I’d set a £0 spending limit! Isn’t that what it’s meant to stop? Now I’m gearing up to give O2 a ring and sort this mess out.

I ran into the exact same issue as a lot of others here. What really helped me was reaching out to O2’s customer support via their app. Hopefully, it makes them realise this is a widespread scam targeting their users. It’s honestly pretty shocking how this is happening.

I recently received a call from the number “020 3167 3316”. They mentioned that they handle the billing related to the 79050 messages. Apparently, a message sent this Christmas Eve ended up going to a lot of people by mistake. They assured me they’d be refunding my £5, which they claim will be processed through a text from the Post Office-whatever that entails!

Got a message from O2 saying I was charged for a premium text, but all I did was get a text from the 079050 number. They’ve taken £2.50 from my account! I’m ringin O2 now to sort this out because how on earth do you get charged for just receiving a text? Totally confusing.

I got in touch with o2, and they've not only given me a refund but also thrown in some extra credit to cover the text I sent saying STOP. Fingers crossed it actually does the trick!

Got charged for a text that just said "Happy new year, stay safe" from 79050. This kind of thing is utterly scandalous and has got to end. Tried calling O2 customer support but no luck getting through. It's not really about the cost, it's the fact that they shouldn’t be doing stuff like this at all. Proper dodgy behaviour from these lot.

I got charged for a text I didn’t ask for. O2 is fully aware of this number but pretend they don’t know anything when I try to get my money back. They’ve only offered to block my number from getting any more messages from it, which is a bit baffling, honestly. If they’re aware that this number is causing issues, why on earth do they still have it active? I can’t help but wonder how many folks are losing out on their £2.50 without even realising it.

On 24/12/20, I got a message from this number and I don't know who it is. I've contacted O2 to ask for my money back since I shouldn't be charged for texts that come in. This really annoys me and I don't think it's right that it can happen. I've blocked the number now.

On Christmas Eve, I received a rather dubious text message indicating a charge of £2.50 + VAT to my O2 account. After struggling for a good thirty minutes on a web chat with O2, the representative suggested I dial 03333137900, but at the steep rate of 55p per minute, I simply refused. I've already felt robbed due to that unsolicited text, and frankly, it appears that O2 customers are being specifically targeted. The agent eventually agreed to initiate a refund, but it won't reflect until my bill next month, which is frustrating. To safeguard myself from further mishaps, I insisted on setting my spending cap to zero. I've also taken the precaution of blocking both the suspicious message and the phone number.

Update - I channeled my inner Karen and insisted on a refund from O2, which they graciously granted as a gesture of goodwill. They provided me with the number 03333137900 to reach those who sent the text, but alas, no details about their company were given. The automated voice claims they represent a third party, but when I attempted to reach a human advisor, surprise, surprise, none were available. I've no idea if I’ll incur any charges for that call, but should I find myself billed, I’ll be straight back to O2 since they instructed me to make that call.

I recently got a message from this number expressing gratitude for my custom, and honestly, I was completely unaware that this was a premium number until I checked. I usually keep an eye on my O2 account, and to my surprise, I found a charge of £2.50 listed under premium and information services. The message was sent by Opera Telecom Ltd., and the number was 03333137900. I’m keen to know how I can go about getting that charge reimbursed. Any advice would be appreciated!

On the 5th of May, I got a rather dodgy text saying CLAIM YOUR £10 VOUCHER TO SPEND AT A HIGH STREET STORE. It instructed me to reply with VOUCHER along with my name and address to snag the offer. To opt-out, I was told to text STOP to a number that suspiciously looks like a premium rate one, CS 03333137800 (which must be a money-making scheme). I chose to ignore it, but low and behold, BT slapped me with a £3 charge for that dubious message. Now, I’m left pondering whether hitting STOP would still mean I’d end up being charged. Or, heaven forbid, if sticking with my silence would lead to a monthly fee being automatically deducted. Surely, this must breach some sort of legal boundary, right? It all seems a bit underhanded to me!

I’ve noticed a deduction of £2.50 from my business account every month for the past year, and it’s just dawned on me that I’ve no idea what it’s for. I gave them a ring only to be greeted by a recorded message directing me to input my mobile number if I wish to opt out. I've had a chat with the authorities regarding a perplexing text message I keep receiving every time I add credit to my pay-as-you-go mobile. Strangely, they immediately deduct £3 from my balance. I'm utterly baffled by the identity of the sender and how this is occurring. The message offers an option to text 'STOP', yet it mentions a recurring charge of £3 each month. Does that mean if I opt to text 'STOP', they'll still take my money anyway? Or if I choose not to respond, will it inevitably lead to a deduction? No matter what, they’re consistently siphoning £3 from me monthly. This feels distinctly like a scam. The police advised me to report it on their website. It's infuriating to think that after topping up my phone, someone could just take my money without my consent. There ought to be stricter rules for mobile providers to prevent this kind of fraudulent activity. It's absolutely unacceptable!
