They’ll be eager to pry as much info out of you as they can, so why not serve them a dish of utter nonsense? I like to spin a tale about having two or three credit cards loaded with debts anywhere from 7,000 to 15,000 quid and interest rates hovering between 15% and 21%. This keeps them yapping and tied up on the line for ages. Inevitably, they’ll ask for your credit card name, the customer service number, and the card’s digits alongside its expiry date (they might even fish for the last four figures of your national insurance number). Just a friendly reminder: steer clear of sharing any genuine details. They collect and retain every scrap of information you provide!
