Today I received a rather peculiar call from a woman who introduced herself as Ms. Hall, representing GL Services. She claimed to be part of a collection agency working on behalf of the IRS for Michigan. According to her, there was some sort of mishap involving my refund cheque, which had supposedly been issued prematurely, and now I apparently owe them £800! She was kind enough to offer me the opportunity to consult with my tax advisor and instructed me to call her back by the 30th. The odd part? I didn’t even receive a refund back in 2017! Quite the conundrum, I must say.

This is definitely a fraudulent operation; they’re trying to obtain your bank details, including your routing and account numbers, so they can siphon funds from your account on a daily basis.

I had a rather concerning call earlier today from an outfit claiming to be the Michigan Accounts Receivable Collections for the Michigan State Treasury. They left a callback number, 866.218.7224, which I later discovered was linked to some dubious activity. After doing a bit of digging with trustworthy sources, it seems both numbers associated with them are likely part of a scam.

In their voicemail, they mentioned options for settling up via post or through their online portal at www.michigan.gov/collectioneservice. However, they insisted on getting your bank account details, routing number, or credit/debit card info, which obviously raised a few red flags! Proceed with caution if you get a call from them!
