Just got a voicemail from this number, instantly sent it to my blocked messages. They didn’t even mention their company or location. The message went something like: “Hello, Miss Santana here, trying to reach _ _ _ _ _ please ring us back at 866-218-7224 and mention reference number ______ thanks…” Felt a bit dodgy so I didn’t bother calling back.

Today, I got a call from someone saying she was Ms. Hall, claiming to be from GL Services. She said she was working for a collection agency linked to the IRS in Michigan. According to her, my refund was sent out before being properly reviewed, and now I supposedly owe them £800. She mentioned I could double-check with my tax advisor and get back to her by the 30th. The strange thing is, I never received any kind of refund back in 2017.

Got a call from someone named McCall claiming to be from the Michigan state department. They asked me to ring back on 866-218-7224 and mentioned I’d need to use a reference number when calling, something like 25347. The hours to call back were pretty oddly specific too - like 8:29 PM Monday to Thursday, 8:26 PM on Fridays, and 8 AM till midday on Saturdays. If they’d messed up and called the wrong person, they told me to still call back with the reference number to clear things up. Bit confusing if you ask me!

They wanted to know the last four numbers of my social security and also asked which bank I use.

Seems like a scam to me - they ask for your bank’s routing and account numbers so they can pull money straight from your account daily.

So today I got a call from someone saying they were from the Michigan State Treasury's Accounts Receivable Collections. They left a callback number, which was 866-218-7224. I did some digging with trustworthy sources and it turns out both numbers are linked to a scam. On their voicemail, they said you could pay either by post or online at www.michigan.gov/collectioneservice. They ask for your bank details like routing number and account number, or your credit/debit card info. Definitely seemed fishy to me.
