On Sunday 14th of Feb I got an automated voicemail on my phone telling me "All your stuff in your account will be deleted since you havent logged into your email account."

Got a call from someone claiming to be from BT, saying hackers were messing with my IP and causing issues. They asked me to use my computer and probably let them connect to it remotely. Then they sent a text to my phone, like some sort of confirmation code, similar to an OTP. They wouldn’t tell me my name or the account holder’s name. Feels like a data leak since all my linked numbers appear to be on some scammer’s list. Definitely a scam, watch out!

Got a call on 13/2/21 from BT saying they've heard I want to cancel my BT services. They mentioned it’s important to understand what occurs when switching providers, and that they’ll be sending a letter explaining it all. They said if I have any questions, I can ring 0800 678 1974. Also, if they don't get in touch with me by 2pm on 06-Nov-2020, the switch will proceed as arranged. Cheers.

Yeah, this number really is from BT. I got a text with a PIN code and then an email at the address they’ve got on file for me. Since I hadn’t been trying to log into my BT account, they warned me someone else might’ve been having a go. The PIN they sent is just a security step to make sure it’s actually you trying to get in. Honestly, if you get a similar text or email, just log into your BT account and change your password straight away, just to be safe.

Got a text from BT saying I reset my password for some strange account on 11/01. If I didn’t do it, it told me to reset at bt[###]/forgotpassword. Sounds fishy to me.

I got a message saying I’d somehow registered for BT online, which is totally untrue. Then, they sent another saying the service would begin on 19th January. I received a couple of texts from BT, and I reckon they're genuine since I did have the mini hub set up when they were sorting out my broadband issues. The problem was sorted a few days back and the case was closed. The messages said something like: "Hello, from BT. We’ve turned off your Mini Hub now, so please reconnect your gadgets to your main home hub. Make sure to keep the Mini Hub safe just in case we need to turn it back on if your broadband acts up again. For support, visit bt.com/help/4Gwi-fi. Cheers."

Got a random text about a BT PIN code, but I don't have any BT services with me. Seems like a clear scam, probably trying to get me to reply and end up on a premium number or something.

Got a few messages from this number on my phone, it was legit updates about a problem I reported with BT. They kept me posted on when the Openreach tech was due to come. After he sorted everything, I got a final text saying things should be working fine again, and it really was. Wonder if crooks have somehow hijacked this number to make fake calls now?

Got a call from a woman, sounded like she was from India, on 0208 547 7238 this morning claiming she was from BT. I was a bit suspicious and told her I didn’t buy it. She said she had my mobile number, which is true, but didn’t prove she was really with BT, then just ended the call, which made me even more doubtful. Right after, I got a text from 64364 saying "Hello, BT here. Your PIN is xxxx. You can only use it once" but there was no info about what the PIN was for or any details. Very fishy if you ask me.

On the following dates: Tuesday 28th April at 0801, Wednesday 10th June at 0805, and Friday 10th July at 0821, I got an automated call from someone saying they were from BT. Got a text saying my BT internet would be switched on today. I never signed up for any internet plan or anything from them. Just ignored the message and blocked the number straight away.

Got a text sayin my BT email’s been blocked. I don’t have any BT app on my phone, but when I checked on my PC, my email was actually locked. It took me to a site askin for my personal info to unlock it. There was a padlock icon in the BT header, but it all felt a bit off. Today, on 12th May 2020 around 3:45 pm, we got a voicemail from the number 64364 saying our email might be hacked. My wife quickly cut the call off as soon as she heard it. Got a message from 64364, some premium number scam. They sent a text to my landline saying there was suspicious activity on my BT email. Thing is, I stopped using BT over two years ago, so I looked up the number. Turns out it’s a premium rate line, so if you reply you’ll get charged. They just throw messages out randomly hoping to catch BT users, since it’s the biggest internet provider. BT won’t phone you unless you’ve already reached out to them yourself.

Got a legit BT message sayin my main email is blocked for security reasons. Trouble is, anyone can fake SMS sender numbers these days. I’ve actually done spoofing myself for the Mountain Rescue alert system so all texts show up from the same number.

This number left me a voicemail claiming I'd asked BT to cancel my broadband. Trouble is, I never made that request. After ringing up BT, they told me Carphone Warehouse had submitted a bogus cancellation on my behalf to switch my line to them. I've never dealt with these dodgy guys before (check out the scandal here https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2019/03/dixons-carphone-ffined-p29-1m-for-mis-selling-mobile-insurance/ or https://www.mirror.co.uk/uk-news/scam-alert-fraud), nor would I, considering their sketchy past. I’m definitely reporting this to OFCOM, and you should do the same if this number contacts you.

I got a ring from 64364 claiming someone abroad was messing with my internet. I was like, “Seriously? That’s one huge antenna you’ve got there!” Ended the call and checked the number - turned out it was actually a local garage’s contact they’d copied!!

Got a call from someone claiming to be with BT. They told my elderly mum they’d sent a parcel last Saturday and would be coming round Monday to set up whatever was inside. But when I checked with BT, they said they hadn’t sent any package at all. Looks like a dodgy scam trying to get into her house.

Got a text with a PIN supposedly for "identity verification with their agent" or something, but I’ve no clue what it's about - I’m not even with BT!

Received a text supposedly from BT saying someone had created an online account with them in my name. I don’t even have a BT phone contract and certainly hadn’t opened any account lately. When I called their customer service, the lady said the message wasn't from them and then just ended the call.

Got a message saying Sam from BT would call me within 5 mins. He did call and talked about a problem I’d actually reported to BT myself, so it seemed legit for me. I wonder if in some of the other messages here, BT were just phoned on the wrong number by mistake?

Got a text saying my email's been blocked, but the email they mentioned aint even mine. Strange!

Got a call around 08:15. Left a voicemail on my landline. Woman sounded proper convincing, saying "BT here, we see your latest payment etc". I already paid the bill last month so it felt suspicious. This isn’t the first time this number’s called me either, once they even said I got £40 credit on my next bill and sent a letter to back it up, seems like a scam to me.

Got a message saying I have credit added to my next bill. Problem is, I don’t even have BT! They asked me to log into some compensation site, felt fishy right away, now I’m sure it’s a scam.

I got a message on my dad’s phone saying his email got blocked and to follow a link. He didn’t go anywhere near it but it’s made him a bit anxious since he’s not great with this tech stuff. Now I’m wondering if it’s honest from BT or just some scam? If it was really from BT, wouldn’t they just ring him up instead of sending a dodgy text?

Got a text from 'BT' saying my email's been blocked cause it might not be safe, and someone could’ve hacked it. They said use bt[###]/mybt to fix it. Email they gave was spot on, but I had a quick look here before doing anything, so just left it.

So this call comes through from BT or so they say, starts off with all this nonsense about “Your Superfast Fibre is waiting for you” - thing is I never asked for any of it. Then they drop a website in the text, something like bt.com/newtobt or something, very dodgy if you ask me.

I’m a bit unsure if we’ll get a fresh router with the faster broadband they’ve promised in our new deal. Guess I’ll just keep an eye out and see what happens.

This isn’t BT at all, as BT doesn’t send out engineers themselves - that’s all done by Openreach. BT won’t ever call and say there’s a fault; they expect you to spot any problems and get in touch. Honestly, just block the caller and mark it as a scam.
