Got a call from a number claiming it was about a PayPal transaction, but when I checked, there wasn’t any PayPal account linked to it. Bit worrying, if you ask me.

I got tricked by a message coming from 62226 claiming to be from Paypal. When I spoke to EE about it, they just brushed it off saying it’s not their issue. I’ve also reached out to Paypal to try and get some answers. I told EE to block all incoming SMS from Paypal numbers, but I’m not even sure if that'll actually help stop these texts.

Yesterday I received a text saying there was a problem with my latest bill, and it told me to go to idmobile.adjust-network.com/verify or else my service would be restricted. About a year back, I was sent a PayPal verification code out of the blue. Definitely looks like a phishing attempt to me.

Got a text from PayPal about my “Pay in 3” plan, saying I owe £166.67 and the first payment is due on 16/01/23. It also says I can text STOP if I want to opt out of these reminders. I got a code from PayPal for two-factor auth after some unusual login attempts. But annoyingly they sent it through a premium rate number which really seems dodgy. Normally they use a different line for this kind of thing. Whether you think it’s a scam or not, that number is definitely linked to PayPal. I’d recommend ringing their customer support to sort it out, try to use a freephone number if you hunt one down.

62226 is the number PayPal use to send their 2fa texts. My phone company won’t refund me for the charges from PayPal when I get these codes for legit purchases. PayPal just won’t deal with it, saying it’s the mobile network’s fault. But I dont pay for the 2fa texts from PayPal. On top of that, PayPal doesn’t seem bothered about the spam texts coming from 62226, leaving us customers to sort it out.

I tried replying but my messages wouldn’t send, like twice. So I looked up 62226 and found this site saying it’s a scam and a premium rate number. I got a message from 62226 saying it was Paypal asking me to verify a payment I supposedly made earlier that day. Was about to reply, but just as I was about to send, I got another message warning me about a charge, so I held back. Tried ringing Paypal’s customer support but it was useless, all automated. That’s definitely Paypal. They use that number to check if any transactions look dodgy and also for the text message security codes you can switch on in your Account Settings. People shouldn’t be spreading wrong info. If you got a text from that number and you didn’t buy anything, it’s not a scam trying to steal your info. You really should just update your PayPal password.

Got a text saying my account was locked since someone tried logging in three times. My phone didn't show who sent it. The link was to a fake PayPal login page that asked for my username and password but wasn’t secure. Classic phishing scam trying to steal your card details.

62226 showed up on my Three mobile bill as a premium text charged at 10p. Could’ve been any other amount really. I don’t think it’s PayPal though. If it’s a scam, they’re probably counting on the small 10p charge so most won’t bother to complain. But seeing as there’s been over 7,000 searches for this number, that’s a cool £700 for them. And if this site’s seen 7000 searches, the real figure is likely at least ten times more.

This is the legit PayPal number they use for sending verification codes through SMS, part of their two factor authentication setup. The phone actually displays PayPal as the caller ID. Sharing this here because I got a dodgy looking text about a transaction from this number and was asked to reply back.

Sent some money to a mate via Paypal and then got a message from 62226 saying there was a dodgy transaction on my account. The payment went through fine with no issues, but I still switched my Paypal password just to be on the safe side.

Got a message stating "Paypal A -£xxx.xx GBP transaction with [seller] on [date] flagged as suspicious. Reply '1' if you approve or '2' if you don’t." I sent back 1 (amount, seller, and date matched perfectly). Then they replied "Thanks for confirming. This transaction will be authorised." Seems alright to me, likely from PayPal. If some random scammer knew all those details, I'd have bigger problems! Going to rate it neutral.

It showed up as PayPal and mentioned the correct transaction amount. I didn’t reply to the message and just ignored it. Ended up having to change passwords for a few of my other accounts anyway.

It matched a payment I'd done before, so I looked it up and saw it was from PayPal, I texted back 1 to verify it was legit. Now I’ve come across this info and I’m proper angry. I’ve blocked the number and switched my password. This and a few other dodgy things have gone on ever since my Ticketmaster account got hacked 😡
