60551 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 60551 👆 is reported as a number used by HMRC to send genuine Government Gateway verification codes for online account access. However, it is frequently exploited by scammers who spoof the number to send fraudulent messages, often including links or alarming claims designed to trick recipients into clicking or divulging personal information. Users commonly report receiving unsolicited codes they never requested, which may indicate attempts to access their tax accounts. Official HMRC communications do not request payments or direct you to click links via SMS. If you receive an unexpected code, it is advisable to treat it with caution, avoid clicking links, and change your account password promptly. Overall, while the number can be legitimate, vigilance is necessary due to widespread scamming activity.

Got loads of texts from 60551 lately, all asking for some government gateway code. Pretty obvious it’s a scam, so I just ignore them.

This number’s legit for HMRC when they send you a code to sign in, but scammers also pretend it’s theirs to trick people. They’ll send fake texts with links hoping you’ll fall for their scams. Just so you know, HMRC won’t ever send you an SMS asking for payments or telling you to click a link. So be careful, those messages are usually fake.

I got a text from 60551 about accessing my government gateway account, but then Google popped up a warning saying it might be spam, which left me really confused. Does anyone know if that number really belongs to HMRC or is it some dodgy scam?

I got a Government Gateway code sent to me, but I never asked for it. Pretty weird, not sure if someone’s trying to use my details or if it’s some kind of mistake. Has anyone else had this happen?

I keep getting texts from this number that looks exactly like the one Government Gateway uses to send login codes. The weird thing is, these messages pop up at all sorts of times and I get about five a day, all with the exact same code and details. The real Government Gateway only sends a code when you actually try to log in and never repeats the same code twice. Looks like this might be a scam, so watch out!

I got a message from a number that looked like it was from the government, but I’m pretty sure scammers can make their numbers seem legit. The message had “in 15 minutes” underlined, which made me think it might be a link. I didn’t click on it, and I won’t be doing that anytime soon.

Pretty obvious scam, especially since the link said HRMC instead of HMRC. Can't believe people still fall for this stuff.

I’ve been sent a gateway code from this number, but I’m not attempting to access my HMRC account. It’s got me puzzled - could someone be trying to get into their HMRC online account using my details? I’m unsure whether this number is genuine or part of some scam, though there’s no link attached or anything that appears dodgy. Quite the mystery!

That message is part of the two-step process for logging into your HMRC gateway account. If it pops up out of the blue, it’s best to update your password straight away.

This morning my partner got a text claiming to be from Gov Gateway with a code, but it was clearly a scam. I’m not totally sure what their game plan is, maybe just to freak people out so they fall for whatever comes next. Honestly, it’s baffling that the government has let this go on for two years without sorting it out - feels like more uselessness from them.

I recently found myself on the receiving end of a dodgy email that directed me to a website crafted to mimic the Government Gateway. Foolishly, I input my login information, only to be met with a two-factor authentication SMS from 60551, which contained a verification code. To my dismay, when I accessed the genuine Government site, another message came through from the same number, 60551!

It's baffling how these con artists pulled this off.
