If you owe money, it’s handled through normal channels, it’s a civil thing. The police wouldn’t waste their time chasing someone over iTunes cards for a debt, they’d find it ridiculous. Just seems like a total scam to me.9 yearsSome guy from overseas tricked me into handing over a grand, threatening me with federal jail if I didn't clear the rest. He pretended to be from the tax office, told me to buy a bunch of iTunes cards worth 100 quid each until I hit £1,000. Then he said he'd ring back the next day demanding another £2,276 or else I'd be arrested. Don't ever pick up when these people call.
