When I rang them directly, a genuine government staff member told me the real government never makes unsolicited calls nor charges you to receive any money. To get a grant, you have to apply yourself, and they won’t be ringing you first. She spoke very clearly and was super helpful. I let her know about these fraudsters but the calls just keep coming. Next time, ask them for their website and warn them you’re recording the call - and mention the FTC is onto them too.
