Honestly, don’t trust what they’re saying, just block the number. They come across so confident but it’s all a load of rubbish. If you’re doubtful, have a quick search online about that number. They told me I’d need to travel to New York to pick up some cash, but the number they gave was actually a call centre!

I got a voicemail saying I’d won $125,000 from some US lottery I never heard of or entered. They gave a number to ring back but when I checked with 1471, it showed the call came from 001 347 772 8941. Definitely a scam, don’t bother calling them back!

This number rang me up claiming I’d bagged second place in some lotto, with a prize of £125,000. They gave me a ticket number to mention if I called them back, but I’m not bothering with that - I only chase first prizes, haha. Seriously though, don’t get taken in by this blatant scam! Remember the old advice: “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!”

Just like everyone else, I’m here poking around because I’m getting better at spotting the suspicious calls in this never ending mess of scams and deals that sound too good to be real. I look up any unknown numbers that pop up. My landline hardly ever gets a proper call, mostly it’s just for finding where I left my phone or getting those annoying spam calls and sometimes worse.

Like many of you, I'm here browsing these posts because we’re getting smarter about spotting the dodgy stuff in this world where greed often masks itself as a bargain. I always look up any unfamiliar numbers that ring me. Got the same message myself today, with that winning number as well. On top of that, I received a dodgy email claiming to be from PayPal. It said something like: "Dear, you’ve just made a payment of £29.98 for a subscription using your PayPalID (@hotmail.co.uk)." The email went on with payment details and a link to cancel the subscription, which looked really fishy. It felt like a phishing attempt to me. I made the mistake of giving out my email when I answered the call, so now I’m worried it all came from the same scammers. Lesson learned, I guess!

On the 18th of September 2017, around 12:30pm, I got a call on my landline claiming to be from some US Lottery organisation. They said I’d snagged the 2nd prize in a Free House Draw, with the payout being £125,000. They mentioned a winning ticket number, 05789, and asked me to ring back on 0013477728941.

The voice sounded like an automated American recording. Honestly, do they really think we’d fall for this rubbish?
